The 2025 Africa Championship of Chinese Cuisine in Nairobi celebrates China-Africa friendship through food, culture, and creative culinary exchange

Nairobi, October 30, 2025 — As part of the China-Kenya Culture and Tourism Season, the 2025 Africa Championship of Chinese Cuisine officially opened at Kenya Utalii College (KUC) in Nairobi, showcasing the power of food as a bridge between cultures.

The event brought together 40 culinary teams from across Africa, including Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, and Senegal — to reinterpret Chinese classics and craft creative fusions featuring African ingredients. H.E. Guo Haiyan, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, and Hon. John Ololtuaa, Principal Secretary for Tourism, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks.

Ambassador Guo emphasised that “cuisine is a reflection of civilization, and food serves as a bridge of exchange.” She described Chinese cuisine’s journey in Africa as a vivid story of cultural connection and mutual appreciation, embodying the philosophy of harmony in diversity. Guo expressed confidence that the competition would inspire deeper cooperation and inject new vitality into building an All-weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.

Kenyan representatives praised the Chinese catering industry’s contribution to local employment and economic growth, noting its role in supporting Kenya’s hospitality and tourism development. They also expressed their commitment to leveraging the championship as a platform to strengthen bilateral cultural and tourism ties.
