The appointment comes as the hotel builds momentum following its opening in February 2025, positioning itself within Thailand’s increasingly competitive upscale hospitality market.
Located in the heart of Pattaya and within easy access of Bangkok, the hotel is part of the expanding Asia Pacific portfolio of Meliá Hotels International, which continues to strengthen its leadership presence across key regional destinations.
Luxury Hospitality Veteran With Global Experience
Lopez joins Meliá Pattaya Hotel after serving for more than two years as General Manager of W Koh Samui. Before that, he held the role of Interim General Manager at W Maldives after initially joining the resort as Resort Manager.
With Swedish and Spanish heritage, Lopez began his hospitality career after graduating from Les Roches International School of Hotel Management. His first industry role was at Sheraton Stockholm Hotel in 2009 before progressing into senior operational and leadership roles across Spain, Switzerland, China, the Maldives, and Thailand.
His international background spans both city hotels and luxury resort operations, giving him broad experience across guest experience, commercial strategy, and operational leadership.
More Than A Decade Of Hospitality Leadership In Thailand
Thailand has played a major role in Lopez’s hospitality career, with more than ten years spent in senior management positions across the country’s luxury resort sector.
His previous Thailand-based roles include leadership positions at Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort, Koh Samui and The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket.
Beyond hotel operations, Lopez has also contributed to broader hospitality industry initiatives through advisory positions including the W Hotels Global Brand GM Advisory Board and the Marriott International Rooms Advisory Board APEC.
The appointment reflects ongoing movement within Thailand’s hospitality leadership sector as international hotel operators continue investing in experienced executives familiar with regional traveler expectations and luxury market dynamics.
Leading Meliá Pattaya Hotel’s Next Growth Phase
As General Manager, Lopez will oversee hotel operations, guest experience, commercial performance, and team development as Meliá Pattaya Hotel continues to expand its presence in Pattaya’s tourism and meetings market.
Ignacio Martin, Managing Director Asia Pacific at Meliá Hotels International, said Lopez’s regional expertise and operational background made him a strong fit for the role.
“Alexander’s extensive luxury hospitality experience, particularly his deep familiarity with Thailand, make him exceptionally well placed to lead Meliá Pattaya Hotel,” Martin said.
“His strong operational leadership and understanding of guest expectations in this region place him in excellent stead to oversee the hotel’s continued growth.”
Lopez described the appointment as an important next chapter in a career closely connected to Thailand’s tourism and hospitality sector.
“It’s an honour to join Meliá Pattaya Hotel at such an exciting stage in its journey,” he said.
“Thailand has played a defining role in my career, and I look forward to working with the team to build on the hotel’s momentum in Pattaya.”
Meliá Expands Leadership Focus Across Asia Pacific
The appointment also highlights Meliá Hotels International’s continued focus on strengthening executive leadership across Asia Pacific as tourism demand rebounds across regional leisure and MICE destinations.
Founded in Mallorca, Spain, the hospitality group operates hundreds of hotels across more than 40 countries through brands including Gran Meliá, ME by Meliá, INNSiDE by Meliá, and Meliá Hotels & Resorts.
Within Thailand, Meliá Pattaya Hotel forms part of a broader hospitality landscape supported by international operators and local development partnerships, as Pattaya continues evolving beyond its traditional leisure tourism profile into a broader lifestyle and meetings destination.
