Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has invested more than THB 1.6 billion (approximately USD 50 million) in a transformation of the hotel, covering all 335 guestrooms and suites, restaurants and bars, meeting and event spaces, public areas and wellness facilities.
The project is guided by the philosophy “Transformed. Timeless. Thai.” It seeks to build on the hotel’s heritage while updating its design and facilities for current travellers.
Torsten Richter, General Manager, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, said, “The transformation of Anantara Siam Bangkok marks a defining moment as we embark on a new chapter for the hotel, while reflecting our confidence in Bangkok’s long-term potential as one of the world’s leading travel destinations. The city’s rich culture, diverse culinary scene, vibrant arts and lifestyle, and renowned hospitality are powerful strengths that continue to create value for the luxury travel market. This is further reflected in the Global Tourism City Attractiveness Index 2026, which ranked Bangkok 8th among 200 cities worldwide, reaffirming the city’s enduring appeal and its ability to attract travellers from across the globe, while providing strong momentum as Bangkok enters a new chapter on the global tourism stage.”
“At the same time, we are seeing a clear shift in the expectations of discerning travellers. Exceptional quality and high standards remain fundamental, while distinctive and meaningful experiences that create a genuine connection with the culture of a destination are becoming increasingly important. This evolution reflects the changing nature of modern tourism, where a destination’s competitiveness is measured not only by visitor numbers, but also by its ability to deliver experiences that are distinctive, meaningful and memorable.”
Heritage and Design
The transformation builds on Anantara Siam Bangkok’s history, which dates to its opening in 1983. The hotel was designed by architect George Wimberley and has incorporated Thai art, craftsmanship, gardens and hospitality into its identity for more than four decades.
Two major heritage features have been conserved as part of the project.
These include the 100-metre hand-painted mural in the lobby, created by Ajarn Paiboon Suwannakudt. The hotel has also preserved 19 ceiling panels depicting the “Heavens in Thai Thought.”
The project combines these elements with contemporary design while retaining the hotel’s existing cultural character.
Rooms and Suites
All 335 guestrooms and suites have been reimagined, ranging from Deluxe Rooms to Siam Suites, Anantara Suites and the Presidential Suite.
The redesigned rooms incorporate teak wood, silk accents and handcrafted details alongside contemporary design. Bathrooms have also been updated with marble finishes, new lighting and contemporary fittings.
Among the additions are the Anantara Garden Pool Suites, which feature private pools within tropical gardens.
The hotel has also introduced the Jim Thompson Suite, a reworked two-bedroom suite created through a collaboration with Jim Thompson. Its design incorporates teak, silk and artwork inspired by the Thai silk brand’s heritage.

Nine Restaurants and Bars
Anantara Siam Bangkok continues to operate nine restaurants and bars covering Thai, Italian, Japanese, steakhouse and South American cuisine.
The outlets include Spice Market, Biscotti, Shintaro, Madison Steak Avenue, Guilty Bangkok and Aqua Bar. Aqua Bar is recognised among Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
The collection also includes Mocha & Muffins, The Lobby and The Garden Terrace, which provide dining and drinks throughout the day.
Meetings and Events
The hotel has also transformed its meetings and events facilities.
The Grand Ballroom is the centrepiece, supported by meeting rooms and other event spaces.
According to the hotel, the facilities combine Thai-inspired design with updated technology and can host international conferences, corporate events, weddings and gala dinners.
Wellness Facilities
The transformation extends to the hotel’s wellness facilities, including the Anantara Spa and Siam Sport Club.
The updated Siam Sport Club features a new fitness centre equipped with Technogym equipment and a dedicated Pilates studio.
Outdoor facilities have also been added for Muay Thai, rock climbing and functional training.
A New Chapter for Anantara Siam Bangkok
Richter said the project is intended to preserve the hotel’s established identity while adapting it for a new generation of travellers.
“What we are doing is building upon the values and spirit that have defined Anantara Siam Bangkok for more than four decades, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens to ensure the hotel’s distinctive identity remains meaningful and relevant to each new generation of travellers. This transformation therefore marks the beginning of a new chapter—one that honours the hotel’s remarkable heritage while moving forward alongside Bangkok and continuing to share the essence of Thailand with travellers from around the world through exceptional Thai-inspired hospitality,” concluded Mr. Richter.
