Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay Debuts in China’s Greater Bay Area

Banyan Tree expands in China with the new Zhuhai Phoenix Bay resort — a seaside sanctuary blending Lingnan heritage, design, and wellbeing by the South China Sea

Banyan Group marks another milestone in its China growth story with the opening of Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay, a tranquil retreat nestled between lush hills and the South China Sea. The launch further strengthens the Group’s presence in the Greater Bay Area, reinforcing its commitment to creating sanctuaries that connect guests with nature, culture, and self.

Expanding Banyan Group’s Footprint in China

The new resort joins Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay to form a dual-branded seaside enclave overlooking the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge and Zhuhai Grand Theatre. Conveniently located near Gongbei Port, the complex offers seamless access to key landmarks and the vibrant rhythm of Zhuhai’s waterfront.

The debut also coincides with Banyan Group’s 20th anniversary in China and its upcoming global milestone—the 100th Banyan Tree property, opening later this month in Singapore. With 37 operating hotels across China, the country remains the Group’s largest and most strategic market.

“The debut of Banyan Tree in Zhuhai represents a significant step in our expansion journey across China,” said Philip Ding, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations and Business Development, Banyan Group China. “Here, guests can rediscover romance, serenity, and connection—true to our vision of creating sanctuaries for pure moments.”

A Celebration of Lingnan Heritage by the Sea

Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay draws deep inspiration from Lingnan culture, a Southern Chinese tradition that celebrates harmony between artistry, nature, and coastal life.

Architecturally, the resort rises where mountains meet the sea, with terraced structures that trace the contours of Phoenix Bay. Its terracotta roofs, sunflower lattice windows, glazed bricks, and oyster shell walls evoke the textures and tones of Guangdong’s maritime past. The sail-shaped roofline gestures to the horizon, while inside, pearl-hued light and marine tones create a soft, reflective ambience.

The central “Flower Corridor” and “Water Alley” connect courtyards and pools, offering tranquil spaces that echo Lingnan’s garden architecture. Across the resort, handcrafted details—from textiles to ceramics—honour local artisanship and cultural storytelling.

Rooms Designed for Tranquillity and View

The resort features 83 guestrooms and suites, each designed as a dialogue between landscape and light. Set within courtyards and terraced gardens, the rooms open toward mountain or ocean views.

Natural wood, patterned screens, and stone textures create an intimate connection with the surroundings. Select suites offer private onsen-style hot springs or plunge pools, while open-plan oceanfront layouts frame the ever-shifting horizon — perfect for a serene retreat.

Culinary Experiences Inspired by Sea and Soil

Dining at Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay celebrates coastal abundance and local tradition:

  • XUN – the signature Fujian restaurant, highlighting Minnan cuisine known for its umami-rich seafood and seasonal produce refined with Cantonese finesse.
  • RONG – a calm breakfast venue serving handcrafted dim sum, roast dishes, and delicate soups.
  • BANG – a whisky and grill bar with over sixty labels, pairing seafood and charcoal-grilled dishes on a terrace facing the bridge and theatre skyline.
  • THE BUTTER – presents Chinese desserts and light dishes crafted with contemporary artistry.
  • MIRROR – a lobby lounge set over still water, inviting guests to sip tea as they drift into slow, reflective conversations.

Wellness and Renewal Overlooking the Bay

At the heart of the resort lies the Banyan Tree Spa, with seven ocean-view treatment rooms that appear to float above the tide. Each therapy draws from natural ingredients and traditional techniques, aligned with the rhythm of the sea.

Guests can also embrace a holistic wellbeing journey through:

  • Wing Chun martial arts and beach meditation sessions
  • Singing bowl therapy inspired by natural resonance
  • A cliffside hot spring with indoor-outdoor pools, sauna, and steam rooms
  • An infinity pool flowing seamlessly into the horizon
  • An ocean-view gym and yoga room for movement and mindfulness

Celebrations and Gatherings by the Sea

Whether for private ceremonies or grand occasions, Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay offers elegant event spaces shaped by natural light and proportion.

The Phoenix Ballroom, spanning 863 square metres with a nine-metre ceiling, accommodates large celebrations with ease. Its adjoining foyer connects to open lawns and a viewing terrace, leading to a sky lawn that opens toward the South China Sea—an ideal setting for weddings or sunset receptions.
