Capella Nanjing Appoints Pierre Chidiac as General Manager

Capella Hotel Group has appointed Pierre Chidiac as General Manager of the upcoming Capella Nanjing, strengthening leadership ahead of the property’s scheduled opening in early 2027.

The appointment comes as Capella continues expanding its presence in Asia’s luxury hospitality market. The Nanjing project will become the brand’s third property in mainland China.

Pierre Chidiac brings more than 15 years of operational experience in China’s hotel industry. He most recently served as General Manager of MGallery Hotel Collection in Nanjing and has previously held leadership roles with Sofitel and Raffles Hotels & Resorts properties in the country.

Fluent in several languages including Mandarin, Chidiac is known for a people-first leadership style. In his new role, he will oversee the hotel’s pre-opening phase and focus on establishing the property as a key luxury hospitality destination in the city.

Capella Nanjing to Open in Historic District Near Presidential Palace

Located along Changjiang Road, the new hotel will sit within a neighbourhood with more than 1,800 years of history.

The location places the hotel within walking distance of several major landmarks, including the Nanjing Presidential Palace.

The development aims to blend heritage architecture with contemporary hospitality, positioning the hotel within one of Nanjing’s most historically significant districts.

The new hotel will bring the brand’s signature hospitality approach to one of China’s most historic cities. As part of Capella Hotel Group’s growing portfolio in the region, Capella Nanjing is expected to combine personalised service with culturally inspired design.

The hotel is positioned to appeal to both international visitors and domestic travellers seeking luxury accommodation in the city.

When it opens in 2027, the new Capelle hotel is expected to further strengthen the brand’s presence in China’s luxury hospitality market.

Architecture and Design Integrate Heritage and Modern Hospitality

Capella Nanjing is designed by David Chipperfield Architects’ Shanghai studio.

The project will feature 185 guestrooms, including 30 heritage suites integrated into the historic structures of Meiyuan Village. A 76-key residences component will also form part of the mixed-use development.

At the centre of the property stands a 360-year-old ginkgo tree, which anchors landscaped gardens designed to connect the hotel with its surroundings.

The gardens will lead guests toward “The Living Room”, the signature communal space featured across Capella properties worldwide.

Why the Capella Nanjing Appointment Matters

The appointment of Pierre Chidiac comes as Capella Hotel Group continues expanding its luxury hospitality portfolio across Asia.

Leadership appointments ahead of hotel openings are common in the industry, as general managers typically oversee pre-opening operations, brand positioning, and recruitment during the critical development phase.

Capella Expands Its Luxury Hospitality Presence in China

The upcoming hotel will mark the brand’s third property in mainland China.

The hotel will join Capella Shanghai and Capella Tufu Bay as part of the company’s growing China portfolio.

The expansion reflects Capella’s strategy to develop luxury hotels in culturally significant destinations while integrating heritage architecture with contemporary design.
