Cathay’s fifth new destination in 2025 strengthens connectivity between Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the world

The Cathay Group is expanding its reach in the Chinese Mainland with the launch of new daily non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha, starting 4 November 2025. The new service reinforces Cathay’s position as a bridge between Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the world, offering travellers greater choice and connectivity.

With Changsha joining the network, Cathay will serve 24 destinations in the Chinese Mainland, five of which were added in 2025. Through its passenger airlines, Cathay Pacific and HK Express, the Group continues to enhance travel convenience and support economic and cultural exchange across the region.

The airline’s new non-stop flights will connect Hong Kong and the vibrant capital of Hunan Province, a destination known for its dynamic business scene, cultural richness and famed cuisine. Travellers from Changsha and the surrounding region will gain seamless access to Cathay’s global network of over 100 destinations, while passengers from around the world can easily explore central China through Hong Kong.

Cathay Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam said:

“We are delighted to introduce non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Changsha, establishing an important link that fosters trade and cultural exchange between Hunan and the rest of the world via our Hong Kong hub. As our 24th destination in the Chinese Mainland, Changsha underscores our commitment to providing more choice, convenience and connectivity for customers. Strengthening Mainland Connectivity

The Cathay Group has announced or launched 21 new passenger destinations this year, including five in the Chinese Mainland. Cathay Pacific began flying to Urumqi in April, while HK Express launched new services to Changzhou, Yiwu, and Guiyang.

For the upcoming winter season, Cathay Pacific will further increase frequencies on key Mainland routes including Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Shanghai, bringing the Cathay Group’s total to over 330 weekly return flights between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland at the winter travel peak.

Investing in the Future

Cathay has committed more than HK$100 billion in investments to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a global aviation hub and enhance the customer experience. This includes the redevelopment of its worldwide lounges, such as the newly redesigned flagship lounge at Beijing Capital International Airport, and the introduction of its “Chinese Classics” inflight dining series in Business Class, celebrating regional cuisines including those of Hunan Province.
