Four Seasons Resort Langkawi has announced the appointment of Tobias Emmer as its new Resort Manager. Bringing more than 20 years of luxury hospitality experience, Tobias joins the island retreat with a strong background in guest experience, team development, and resort operations across Europe and Asia Pacific.
From Munich and London to Shanghai and Chiang Rai, his international career has shaped a leadership style focused on authentic connections, meaningful experiences, and service excellence. His appointment is expected to further enhance the resort’s position as “the jewel of the Andaman Sea.”
A Global Hospitality Journey Shaped by Luxury Service
“Over the years, I’ve learned that excellence isn’t just about delivering service, it’s about crafting moments,” Tobias shares.
“How do you preserve the unique feeling of a place while elevating the guest experience? How do you strike a balance between luxury, authenticity and connection? Therein lies the magic.”
Hospitality has always been part of Tobias’ life. Growing up in a family passionate about hotels, he inherited what he describes as the “hotel gene” from his uncle, a lifelong hotelier.
Rather than following a traditional teenage job path, Tobias began working in a kitchen, preparing salads and washing dishes before starting an apprenticeship at an acclaimed luxury hotel in Munich. He later completed a bachelor’s degree in tourism while continuing his professional journey in London with the same hotel group.

Building a Career Across Europe and Asia Pacific
After several years in London, Tobias moved to Shanghai to join the opening team of a new five-star hotel. The opportunity became a defining chapter in his career and marked the beginning of a long connection with Asia Pacific’s luxury hospitality scene.
Over the past 12 years, he has worked across several renowned properties in the region, developing expertise in resort operations, guest services, and team leadership.
In 2015, Tobias joined Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, where his dedication and leadership skills helped him progress from Front Office Manager to Director of Rooms.
Three years later, he stepped into his first Resort Manager role at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai, Thailand, overseeing daily operations at the unique luxury tented retreat.
He subsequently joined Four Seasons Hotel Singapore as Hotel Manager, where he spent the last two and a half years before taking on his new role in Langkawi.
Returning to Island Life at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi
For Tobias, arriving in Langkawi represents a meaningful return to island hospitality.
He will oversee all aspects of resort operations, bringing fresh perspectives and renewed enthusiasm to one of Malaysia’s most celebrated luxury resorts.
“Langkawi is genuinely special — there’s a natural beauty here that you can’t help but feel connected to, and Four Seasons stands out with its unique character and deep sense of place,” Tobias says.
“The Resort’s drama and style remain true to its island roots, with just the right amount of flair thrown in. And let’s be honest, you can’t beat that beach!”
He looks forward to immersing himself in the destination’s local rhythms while working with the resort team to showcase Langkawi’s natural beauty and cultural spirit to travellers from around the world.
A Leadership Philosophy Built Around People
Known for his enthusiastic mentorship style, Tobias places strong emphasis on developing people and helping team members reach their full potential.
His leadership philosophy is reflected in his favourite quote from Eleanor Roosevelt:
“True hospitality consists of giving the best of yourself to your guests.”
For Tobias, exceptional hospitality is not only about delivering outstanding service. It is also about creating a culture where colleagues feel inspired, supported, and empowered to make a difference.
Finding Inspiration Through Travel and Art
Beyond his professional role, Tobias remains an enthusiastic traveller who continues to seek inspiration from destinations around the world.
As an art enthusiast, he enjoys discovering creativity in unexpected places and finding ideas that can be transformed into memorable experiences for guests at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi.
With his extensive international experience, passion for people, and appreciation for authentic destinations, Tobias’ arrival marks an exciting new chapter for the resort as it continues to celebrate the spirit of Langkawi.
