The debut marks Waldorf Astoria’s second property in Shanghai and reaffirms Hilton’s confidence in China’s growing luxury travel market
Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has opened Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan, a landmark addition to its luxury portfolio and the brand’s second outpost in the city. With this debut, Shanghai becomes one of only three cities in the world to host two Waldorf Astoria hotels, a testament to its enduring global influence and sophisticated traveler appeal.
Set along the southern stretch of Shanghai’s new Bund in Pudong’s dynamic Qiantan District, the hotel commands sweeping riverfront views and direct access to Qiantan Park and the scenic waterfront promenade. Designed as a serene retreat within the city’s vibrant pulse, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan blends tranquility and connectivity, offering guests a sanctuary that feels worlds away yet minutes from everything.
“Shanghai remains one of Asia’s most captivating international cities,” said Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan introduces a distinguished new address to the city and reaffirms our confidence in the future of luxury travel in China.”
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and Cheng Chung Design (CCD), the property draws on Shanghai’s Art Deco legacy through a contemporary lens. The result is an architectural expression of contrast, modern yet timeless, global yet deeply local. Interiors celebrate Chinese craftsmanship with reimagined peacock motifs, sail-inspired forms, and elegant detailing that reflect the hotel’s riverfront setting.

The 204 rooms and suites start from a generous 52 square meters, many with private balconies overlooking the Huangpu River. Select suites feature outdoor jacuzzis, offering intimate moments framed by the city’s skyline.
Dining is central to the experience. Arame delivers modern European cuisine with Shanghai flair; Fu Cheng, helmed by Michelin-starred chef Justin Yang, presents refined Min cuisine rooted in Quanzhou heritage; and Starlight Room offers a reservation-only chef’s table with panoramic river views. At the heart of the hotel, Peacock Alley channels the glamour of its New York namesake, blending timeless allure with an engaging, contemporary social energy.
Wellbeing takes a restorative turn with a marble-clad 25-meter indoor pool illuminated by a glass skylight, a state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness center, and four serene treatment rooms. Guests can also unwind with riverside jogging, cycling, and yoga sessions that reconnect them with nature’s rhythm.
Located near the West Bund Art Museum, Tank Shanghai, and Qiantan Taikoo Li, the hotel bridges art, culture, and lifestyle — a haven of elegance for travelers seeking depth and discovery. Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan embodies the next chapter of modern luxury: where calm meets sophistication, and every stay inspires.

Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan is located at No. 18 Linyao Road, Pudong District, Shanghai, 200126, China.
