Hong Kong Cat Expo 2026 has opened at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), bringing together more than 400 booths, 185 exhibitors and a programme of pet products, cat-themed art, interactive installations and cat competitions.

Running from July 31 to August 2 in Wan Chai, the event is organised by Exhibition Group. This year’s theme, “Wild West Cowcat,” features LeonLollipop’s Gloomie cats in cowboy and cactus-inspired designs.

The Expo has also expanded its cultural programme, with a new immersive experience inspired by old Hong Kong, two cat-art zones and a Mandycat Opera House installation.

Hong Kong’s Cat Economy Continues to Grow

The Expo comes as Hong Kong’s cat market continues to expand. Organisers said the local cat industry is now worth more than HK$6 billion annually.

Average monthly spending on cats has reached HK$2,062, according to data cited by the organisers, representing a 2.8% year-on-year increase.

The profile of Hong Kong’s cat population is also changing. Cats adopted during the pandemic are now entering middle age, with the proportion aged four to seven rising from 20.8% in 2024 to 28.2%.

As cats age, owners are spending more on medical care, healthcare and products aimed at improving their pets’ quality of life. The trend is contributing to what organisers call the “Cat Silver Economy”, with demand for premium pet health products and services expected to grow.

Immersive Experience Recreates Old Hong Kong

New to this year’s Expo, the Immersive Photo Experience recreates several nostalgic Hong Kong settings, including a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy, clock wall, old-school hair salon and neighbourhood store.

Visitors can photograph their cats in the recreated environments.

Local illustrator Mandycat is also presenting the Mandycat Opera House, a new installation inspired by an opera house and combining illustration, culture and spatial design.

Cat Art From 30 Artists

The “Meow’s Gallery” and “Cat COLLEX” zones feature works by approximately 30 artists from China, France, Japan, India, Russia, Malaysia and other markets.

Presented with local galleries including Artaflo Collective and BLINK Gallery, the exhibitions cover paintings, sculptures and designer blind-box collectibles using materials ranging from fabric and ceramics to copper and wood.

BLINK Gallery’s “Love, Life, and Contemporary Eastern Aesthetics” exhibition brings together 12 contemporary artists. Contemporary ink artist TK Chan, for example, combines AR technology with ink painting, allowing visitors to scan works with their phones to access animated visuals and interactive games.

Other participating artists include Poon Kwing Wing (Shui Wo Tin), Kwan Ka Leung, Cheng Yee Chu, Jihea Park, Erica Hestu Wahyuni, Aslam Tabah, Cheung Man Yee, Yu Lai Ting, Li Wing Sze, Ma Chuen and Albert Chung.

BLINK Gallery is also presenting limited-edition “Wild West Cowcat” merchandise.

CFA Cat Show Adds Open Rings

The CFA Championship Cat Show X Summer Fun Show, presented by the Hong Kong Black Cat Club, features 10 rings over two days, judged by international judges under American CFA competition rules.

For the first time, two additional open rings allow cats to participate regardless of breed or registration status.

The Expo is also displaying historic material loaned by the American CFA, including a Best in Show rosette from the Madison Square Garden Cat Show in New York and cat-show garments dating back more than 100 years.

Meanwhile, “MoCity x Cat Expo — Cats on the Big Screen” allows owners to submit photographs of their cats and bring them to the venue for photos in front of the large screen.

Awards including Most Popular, Cutest, Funniest and Most Beautiful Cat will be presented on August 2.

Pet Products and Creative Goods

Pet products remain a major part of the Expo, with exhibitors covering nutrition, treats, litter, toys, accessories and handmade goods.

Pawsome Wellness Limited (Booth 3C-F30) is showcasing Japanese Red Reishi mushroom cat treats and an exhibition promotion. Vipets (Booth 3C-E01) is presenting French brand Pupu Egg’s DIY pet snack kit, which the company says contains 96% animal protein.

joywood life (Booth 3D-C08) is showcasing a squeeze-and-serve cheese paste described by the company as lactose-free and salt-free. Meanwhile, Lotux International (Booth 3B-K37) is presenting lotus-fibre cat litter, which it says offers 99% odour elimination and is flushable and biodegradable.

Other exhibitors include ONEMORE CONSULTANTS LIMITED (Booth 3C-J25) with handmade New Zealand wool cat toys, Mandycat (Booth 3C-Z23) with its new book Without Cats, I Am Not Me and limited-edition merchandise, and Meow Workshop (Booth 3C-J75) with cat-themed craft workshops.

Exhibition Group Highlights Changing Cat Culture

At the opening ceremony, Exhibition Group Chairman Carl Wong said the Expo had developed beyond a traditional pet consumer exhibition.

“The Expo’s audience is no longer limited to cat owners.”

Wong said the event now also attracts people interested in pets, creative arts and lifestyle experiences, while this year’s programme combines cat-themed art, designer toys and other creative works from Hong Kong and overseas.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Hong Kong SAR Government, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the Hong Kong Pet Trade Association, Hong Kong Black Cat Club, Hong Kong Institute of Marketing, Mastercard and Exhibition Group.
