Discover what to expect at HUALUXE Shanghai Changfeng Park — from park-view rooms and cultural design to wellness, dining, and a calm luxury stay in Shanghai
Earlier this week I checked in to HUALUXE Shanghai Changfeng Park. I’d been curious ever since my excellent stay at HUALUXE Kunming earlier this year, and I wasn’t disappointed — this visit reaffirmed why the brand stands out. HUALUXE is IHG’s luxury brand designed specifically for Chinese travellers; since its 2012 launch the philosophy has been clear: Respecting Chinese Guests, Celebrating Chinese Culture. That shows in the hotel’s artful interiors, feng shui influences, calm public areas, thoughtful wellness features, and food that honours local culinary traditions.
The Scene
Arriving felt different in a good way — I wanted a place that blended green calm with modern luxury. The lobby’s water-inspired design and subtle Chinese touches set a relaxed tone right away. Outside, quiet streets and the edge of Changfeng Park make the hotel feel like a peaceful pocket of Shanghai — close enough to business districts, but it genuinely felt like an escape.

Location — Next to Changfeng Park
The hotel sits in the Putuo Eco-Business District, right beside Changfeng Park. It enjoys waterfront on the Suzhou River and direct access to Metro Line 15, and it’s convenient for the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing. Nearby attractions include Changfeng Sea World, the LEGO Discovery Centre, and Changfeng Joy City mall — it’s a good spot for city breaks and family trips.

Practical tips
- Changfeng Park Station (Metro Line 15), Exit 3 — about a 2-minute walk.
- Wear comfortable shoes — the park is larger than it looks.
- Taxis to central sights (The Bund, Nanjing Road) are 30–40 minutes; sometimes the metro’s faster.
- Visit the park early for quiet paths and nicer light for photos.
The Hotel — Calm, Elegant, Thoughtful
The design leans on traditional landscape-garden ideas, mixing architecture with natural elements. Public spaces feel elegant without being flashy, sticking to a consistent “water and nature” theme. Staff are warm, attentive and professional — it all reinforces that quiet luxury vibe.
Practical tip
- Keep an eye out for water-themed art around the lobby — they make for nice photos.
Best for: Design lovers and anyone who appreciates cultural details and a calming environment.
Rooms & Suites — Modern Comfort with Park Views
There are 312 rooms and suites. I stayed in a park-view room: modern, spotless, and finished with subtle Chinese accents. Morning light and the greenery outside made the room feel especially relaxing. The bed was very comfortable and the amenities were thoughtfully chosen.
Practical tip
- Book a park-view (or lake-view) room for the best scenery — it’s worth the investment.
Best for: couples, families, and travellers who want modern comfort with cultural touches.

Dining — Solid Choices with Cultural Touches
Hotel has four culinary venues. Dining options are straightforward and well executed:
All-day dining XIAN YAN (1F) — buffet and à la carte.

Chinese restaurant CAI FENG LOU 彩丰楼 (2F) — Contemporary Huaiyang and classic Cantonese; open dining room plus five private rooms — perfect for family or business meals.

LUXE Tea Lounge (1F) — My favourite: peaceful and stylish, great for afternoon tea or casual meetings.

guests can enjoy discreet meetings in an upscale tearoom environment while sipping Chinese fine teas
Noodle Bar (1F) — Open early to late (convenient for quick or late meals).

Practical tips
- Go early to breakfast for the best and hottest selections.
- Stop by LUXE Tea Lounge in the afternoon for a calm break.
- Reserve private rooms at CAI FENG LOU if you’re hosting a business dinner.
- The Noodle Bar is handy for late arrivals.
Best for: Business travellers who want quiet meeting spaces, couples after elegant dining, families who like choices.

snacks.
Meetings & Events — Modern and Flexible
With over 1,060 m² of event space (a 540 m² pillar-free ballroom and six meeting rooms), and natural light in conference facilities, the hotel suits mid-sized functions, meetings and social events. The events team is efficient and the rooms are well maintained.

Practical tips
- Book the ballroom early — it’s popular.
- Use the events team for AV and room setup — they’re helpful.
- LUXE Tea Lounge is a nice spot for casual networking.
- The ballroom’s natural light and foyer make it a lovely wedding venue.
Best for: Corporate meetings, conferences, trainings and private celebrations.
Wellness — One of the Highlights
Wellness facilities impressed me: a 777 m² 24-hour gym with natural light and new equipment, a glass-enclosed yoga room that actually feels serene, an indoor heated pool, a children’s pool, plus sauna and steam rooms. It isn’t a full service spa with an extensive treatment menu, but the facilities are comprehensive and relaxing.

both directions, so you can enjoy the sunshine or the city views from the poolside.

Practical tips
- Try morning yoga in the glass studio — it’s a standout.
- Bring goggles for lap swims; the pool is cosy but functional.
- Use the sauna/steam during off-peak times for extra privacy.
Best for: Fitness-minded guests, families, and anyone who values well-rounded wellness options.
My Takeaway — Calm Luxury in a Green Corner of Shanghai
HUALUXE Shanghai Changfeng Park gave me exactly what I hoped for: calm, modern luxury with meaningful cultural touches. The park-side location is the hotel’s biggest asset; rooms are comfortable and well appointed; dining and wellness are strong points. It’s slightly outside classic tourist zones and room sizes are modest, but those are minor quibbles next to a genuinely pleasant stay.
Final practical tips
- Pair business trips with wellness or park walks.
- Request a park-view room.
- Book dining or private rooms at peak times.
- Families should use the kids’ pool and wellness areas.
Recommended for
- Business travellers: good for meetings and conferences.
- Leisure & couples: peaceful, scenic and culturally rich.
- Families: kid-friendly facilities and varied dining.
- Design lovers: subtle Chinese elegance meets modern luxury.
