Hyatt Centric Sapporo exterior and interior design featuring Hokkaido-inspired elements
Hyatt Centric Sapporo has opened in central Sapporo, becoming the first Hyatt Centric hotel in Hokkaido, Japan

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has opened Hyatt Centric Sapporo, the first Hyatt Centric hotel in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

Located in central Sapporo, the new hotel occupies the upper floors of a mixed-use tower and is positioned as a base for exploring the city and the wider Hokkaido region. The property features 216 guestrooms and suites, two dining venues, and guest experiences focused on local culture, food and seasonal activities.

The hotel is located next to the historic Akarenga-chosha, the former Hokkaido Government Office Building also known as the Red Brick Building. It is also near Odori Park, a central green space that hosts events including the Sapporo Snow Festival, YOSAKOI Soran Festival and Sapporo Autumn Fest.

Guests can access Odori subway station through an underground walkway, while JR Sapporo Station is approximately a 10-minute walk away.

Hyatt Centric Sapporo Highlights Hokkaido’s Capital City

As Hokkaido’s capital, Sapporo serves as a gateway to the island’s ski resorts, hot springs, national parks and mountain landscapes.

The city is known for its seasonal events, including the annual Sapporo Snow Festival, which features snow sculptures, ice installations, skating rinks and snow activities across the city during winter.

Hokkaido is also recognised for its seafood and food culture, which the hotel showcases through its restaurants Matsu Grill & Bar and Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo.

“We are thrilled to introduce the Hyatt Centric brand to Sapporo, a dynamic destination where every season reveals a new side of Hokkaido,” said Yuki Takimura, General Manager, Hyatt Centric Sapporo.

“Placing you in the middle of the action, Hyatt Centric Sapporo is designed to be an ideal starting point for exploration. Through an insider’s lens, we look forward to helping World of Hyatt members and guests discover local flavors, cultural traditions and seasonal experiences that make every stay unique.”

Guestrooms Draw Inspiration from Hokkaido’s Explorer Heritage

Hyatt Centric Sapporo’s design concept is inspired by Takeshiro Matsuura, the explorer and cartographer credited with naming Hokkaido.

The hotel describes the property as a modern-day “Northern Explorer’s Residence,” with design elements reflecting the region’s landscapes, traditions and history through architecture, artwork, materials and guest experiences.

The hotel’s 216 guestrooms and suites measure 36 square metres (388 sq. ft.) or more. Large windows provide natural light and views of Sapporo’s cityscape.

Design details include a wooden check-in counter created by a local artisan, straw artworks, regional textures and motifs, reclaimed wood, artisanal finishes and a fireplace lounge.

Hyatt Centric Sapporo Introduces Hokkaido-Inspired Dining

Located on the 17th floor, Matsu Grill & Bar serves dishes based on Hokkaido ingredients, combining wood-fired cooking with Mediterranean culinary influences.

The restaurant features an open kitchen and offers views across Sapporo’s cityscape throughout the day and evening.

On the ground floor, Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo focuses on fish and chips prepared with seasonal white fish sourced from waters surrounding Hokkaido. The menu also includes locally grown potatoes, craft beer, fish burgers and churros.

The casual café is located near the former Hokkaido Government Office Building and offers both dine-in and takeaway options.

Hotel Offers Local Recommendations Through Hyatt Centric Insiders

Hyatt Centric Sapporo’s Local Insiders provide guests with recommendations based on seasonal events, neighbourhood activities and individual interests.

The hotel offers a seasonal insider map and daily recommendations covering experiences throughout the year, from spring blossoms and local festivals to summer gatherings, autumn harvests and winter activities.

Guests can also return to the hotel to relax in the fireplace lounge area before continuing their exploration of Sapporo.
