Sustainability milestone highlights IHG’s commitment to eco-friendly hospitality in line with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030

Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay has made history as the first IHG hotel in Asia to join the company’s Low Carbon Pioneer programme, a global initiative that champions hotels running without on-site fossil fuels and powered by renewable energy. The designation signals IHG’s growing footprint in sustainable hospitality and underscores Singapore’s drive toward greener tourism.

Opened in 2014, the hotel has long been a model of sustainable design. Its eco-conscious features include a fully electric kitchen, hot water heat pumps, high-efficiency water fixtures, intelligent energy management systems, solar glazing, and advanced lighting controls—reducing energy consumption while maintaining guest comfort.

The property has earned GSTC certification, the Singapore Hotel Sustainability Award 2025 from the Singapore Hotel Association, and PUB’s Water Efficient Building Certification, reflecting its leadership in environmentally responsible operations.

“Holiday Inn Express Singapore Clarke Quay shows that performance and responsibility go hand in hand,” said Kishin RK, Founder and CEO of RB Capital Group. “Reducing our hotels’ carbon footprint is not just good business—it’s essential for future-proofing our assets.”

Vivek Bhalla, Managing Director, South East Asia & Korea, IHG Hotels & Resorts, added: “We are thrilled to see our first Asian hotel join the Low Carbon Pioneers. Collaborating with industry and government partners, we aim to accelerate sustainability at scale and inspire more hotels across the region.”

The Low Carbon Pioneer programme aligns with IHG’s global “Journey to Tomorrow” responsible business plan and supports hotel owners in achieving energy efficiency, green financing eligibility, and guest preference for sustainable stays. Looking ahead, Hotel Indigo Changi Airport, slated to open in 2028, plans to achieve zero-energy certification under Singapore’s Green Mark Scheme.
