Sapporo, Hokkaido, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, the world’s first and largest international luxury hotel brand, opens InterContinental Sapporo, blending refined design, local artistry and immersive experiences in one of Japan’s most captivating destinations.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts continues its legacy of pioneering in new destinations with the opening of InterContinental Sapporo, a sophisticated new address inviting guests to connect deeply with the culture and natural beauty of Hokkaido.
Located within the Nakajima Park area and moments from the vibrant Susukino entertainment district, the hotel is perfectly positioned for travellers seeking both serenity and urban energy. Occupying the 9th to 14th floors of the striking Lilac Square complex, the new-build property features 149 guestrooms and suites, each offering sweeping views of the city, park, or Toyohira River. The interiors reflect Hokkaido’s rich landscapes — combining warmth, texture, and contemporary elegance — from the greenery-filled lobby and fireplace lounge to the open-air terrace overlooking the park.
Gastronomy Inspired by Hokkaido’s Bounty
InterContinental Sapporo celebrates the art of dining with three distinctive venues. Sawaka, an omakase-style specialty restaurant, fuses Japanese aesthetics with global culinary craft through a Chef’s Choice course menu highlighting premium ingredients from Hokkaido and beyond. AuBlanc brings a relaxed bistronomy flair to all-day dining, from vibrant breakfasts to refined dinners and fresh bakery delights. Meanwhile, Norva Lounge & Bar transforms from an elegant tea lounge by day to a sophisticated cocktail destination by night.
Guests can unwind at the 20-metre indoor heated pool or stay active at the 24-hour fitness centre, while the Club InterContinental lounge on the top floor offers exclusive privileges — from private check-in to evening refreshments — all set against panoramic city views.
With this debut, InterContinental Sapporo joins a global portfolio of over 231 InterContinental hotels, including 10 across Japan, as IHG Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its luxury & lifestyle collection — spanning Six Senses, Kimpton, Vignette Collection, and Hotel Indigo — with Regent Hotels & Resorts set to make its Japan debut in 2028.
