InterContinental hotel guest using Timeshifter jet lag plan for restorative travel
InterContinental expands its Timeshifter partnership to provide complimentary personalised jet lag plans to every guest

InterContinental is extending its global partnership with Timeshifter, giving guests across its 242 hotels and resorts in almost 70 countries complimentary access to personalised jet lag mitigation plans.

Now, every guest staying at an InterContinental hotel or resort can access a personalised plan to overcome travel fatigue. This applies whether they are staying for the first time or returning to a beloved property.

The collaboration reinforces InterContinental’s commitment to restorative travel. It also puts the latest circadian technology into guests’ hands, helping them arrive at their best and ready to explore the world.

Personalised Jet Lag Support

Trusted by athletes, astronauts and global travellers, Timeshifter is a leading tool for managing the effects of long-distance travel.

For InterContinental, the technology forms part of its evolving guest experience and Intentional Flexibility initiatives. These initiatives provide thoughtful solutions that help modern luxury travellers move seamlessly across time zones and shape-shift throughout their day.

Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said:

“Our partnership with Timeshifter is about putting the right technology in the hands of our guests so they can seamlessly shift through their day-to-day. By harnessing the power of cutting-edge solutions like Timeshifter, we’re not only addressing the common challenges faced by travellers but also redefining the entire guest experience. The technology embodies InterContinental’s relentless commitment to delivering intuitive service by adjusting to the evolving needs of luxury travellers.”

Circadian Science Behind Timeshifter

The Timeshifter app draws on the latest circadian science to create personalised plans that address the underlying causes and symptoms of jet lag.

Each plan considers the guest’s itinerary, chronotype, normal sleep pattern and personal preferences. It then provides guidance on sleep, light exposure and avoidance, and caffeine timing.

The app applies the same algorithm used by astronauts, Olympic athletes, F1 teams, NBA players and national soccer teams in high-performance settings.

Mickey Beyer-Clausen, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Timeshifter, said:

“We have known for decades that circadian clocks govern nearly every function in the human body, from sleep and alertness to metabolism and immune function. When we travel across multiple time zones, our circadian clocks can’t keep up. That’s why when people cross time zones, they spend the first days of their trips fighting jet lag. Science shows that the only way to adapt quickly to new time zones is by resetting the central circadian clock in our brain – and that’s exactly what the Timeshifter app helps travelers do in a simple, practical way. Now, through our collaboration with InterContinental we can allow guests to optimise every moment of their time exploring the world.”

Restorative Dining for Travellers

Timeshifter forms part of a wider suite of restorative travel initiatives at InterContinental hotels and resorts.

These initiatives include nutritionally rich dishes designed to help counter the body’s natural response to travel. Together, they support a more holistic approach to travel fatigue.

The goal is to help guests feel replenished, restored and re-energised throughout and beyond their stay.

A range of scientifically backed Nourish Bowls and Anytime Plates is available across Flexible Dining menus at properties around the world. The dishes aim to combat energy slumps and boost vitality.

Each dish features ingredients selected to support energy and vitality. At the same time, they offer a taste of local culture.

For example, egg-forward options are rich in vitamin B12, which can help suppress the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. Other ingredients offer hydration benefits, addressing dehydration, one of the key impacts of travel.

Magnesium-rich green leafy vegetables also feature prominently. They help balance mineral fluctuations caused by travel.

Complimentary Timeshifter Access

All InterContinental guests receive complimentary access to a Timeshifter jet lag plan with every booking.

The plan covers both inbound and outbound journeys. Guests can access it through a QR code promoted at various points in the guest journey, both before and during their stay.
