
Minor Hotels has appointed Magdalena Martorell as General Manager of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort. She joins the Maldives property from Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort in Indonesia, where she has served as General Manager since February 2025.
Martorell brings more than a decade of hospitality leadership experience in Asia. Her international career spans Spain, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and China, with experience in resort operations, commercial management and hotel pre-openings.
Leadership Experience at Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort
During her tenure at Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort, Martorell oversaw operations and strategic direction. She also developed guest experiences spanning wellness, local culture, dining and destination discovery.
Under her leadership, the resort ranked eighth among resorts in Indonesia in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
Previous Roles in Thailand, China and Vietnam
Before joining Minor Hotels, Martorell spent nearly four years as General Manager of Meliá Phuket Mai Khao in Thailand. She led the property’s pre-opening and launch in November 2021, followed by its ongoing operations.
Her work there included developing the resort’s wellness offering. Initiatives included dedicated wellness spaces and rituals, wellness villa concepts, and retreats featuring visiting practitioners. She also focused on commercial performance.
Earlier in her career, Martorell held General Manager positions at Meliá Shanghai Parkside in China and SOL by Meliá Phu Quoc in Vietnam. Both roles involved pre-opening assignments.
She also served as Hotel Manager at Meliá Bali, including one year as Acting General Manager. Before that, she held hotel leadership positions in Spain.
Plans for Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort
At Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort, Martorell plans to develop the property’s existing guest experiences through collaborations with artists, wellness and fitness specialists, and sports professionals.
Her approach will also focus on service culture and team development, alongside experiences that highlight the Maldives’ natural environment.
Education and Executive Development
Martorell studied Hotel Management at E.S.T.B., University of Tourism in Mallorca, Spain. She also holds a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University.
Her executive development includes further studies in hotel real estate and investment at Cornell.
