Mandarin Oriental, Macau Appoints Kai Jansen as General Manager

Luxury hospitality group Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has named Kai Jansen as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Macau, bringing an international leadership background spanning Europe and Asia to the property.

Kai Jansen steps into the role with more than a decade of luxury hospitality experience, having built his career across operational, food and beverage, and hotel management positions within the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group portfolio.

Originally from Rheine, Germany, Jansen began his career with a restaurant apprenticeship before completing a Bachelor of Business Administration through studies at Stenden University of Applied Sciences and Rangsit University. Early professional roles in luxury hotels in Shanghai and Berlin helped shape his operational background.

Jansen joined the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in 2014 at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, where he advanced through leadership roles within the hotel’s dining and beverage operations. In 2018, he relocated to Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur as Director of Food and Beverage, managing the property’s extensive culinary portfolio and leading a team of more than 350 colleagues through the operational challenges of the pandemic.

He later served as Hotel Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Munich, before leading the pre-opening team at Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich. Under his leadership, the property earned recognition including Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status in 2026 and Hotel of the Year 2025 by Gault&Millau.

During his time in Switzerland, Jansen also completed a Master’s degree in hospitality management through Glion Institute of Higher Education in partnership with ESSEC Business School.

In his new role in Macau, Jansen will oversee the hotel’s strategy, operations and guest experience, while working closely with the local team to further strengthen the property’s position in the city’s luxury hospitality market.

Outside work, Jansen is a sports enthusiast and badminton player. He will relocate to Macau with his wife and three children.
