Nina Hospitality has launched a major renovation of Nina Hotel Island South, repositioning the 432-room property as an urban oasis on Hong Kong Island’s south side. The transformation introduces a redesigned lobby, refreshed guestrooms an the brand’s third Nina Communal concept — strengthening the hotel’s appeal to families, business travellers and long-stay guests at a time of renewed demand for value-driven urban stays.
A Southside Repositioning
Originally opened in 2010, Nina Hotel Island South is located five minutes from Wong Chuk Hang Station and within close proximity to Ocean Park and Aberdeen Harbour.
The renovation reframes the property as a contemporary urban retreat — leveraging its southside location while enhancing communal and design-led elements across public and private spaces.
The refreshed positioning aligns with Nina Hospitality’s broader portfolio strategy, following the established Nina Communal concept at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West and Nina Hotel Kowloon East.
Lobby Redesign by LAUD Limited
Designed by LAUD Limited, the reimagined lobby draws inspiration from Hong Kong Island’s natural landscape.
Key design elements include:
- Natural wood finishes
- Marble accents
- Soft ambient lighting
- Open-plan layout connecting reception and lounge
Curated seating zones create flexibility for families, business travellers and groups, positioning the lobby as both gateway and social hub.
432 Refreshed Guestrooms and Suites
The hotel’s 432 guestrooms and suites have been updated with open layouts that maximise natural light.
Design highlights include:
- Natural oak finishes
- Ivory-toned palette to enhance spatial perception
- Safari brown leather accents
- Ivy green upholstery for contrast
Room configurations range from 30 to 81 sqm and include:
- 6 rooms with private balconies
- 13 family rooms accommodating up to five guests
- 4 top-floor signature balcony suites with southside views
Newly renovated family rooms and suites are scheduled for launch in Q3 2026.
Nina Communal Expands to Island South
Central to the renovation is Nina Communal — the brand’s signature communal lounge concept.
Spanning approximately 260 sqm, the Island South edition becomes the third in the series.

The space is designed for:
- Cooking, dining and informal gatherings
- Working and networking
- Social events and community activations
Features include:
- A pantry area
- A bar for casual drinks
- Flexible seating arrangements
The concept supports solo travellers, families, groups and long-stay guests seeking flexibility and community within an urban hotel setting.
Dining and Facilities
Guests can dine at I-O-N, the hotel’s Southeast Asian buffet restaurant.
Additional facilities include:
- Three meeting rooms
- 24-hour gym access
- Outdoor swimming pool
Together, these amenities complement Nina Communal and reinforce the property’s positioning as a mixed-purpose base for business trips, family stays and city breaks.
Why It Matters
The renovation of Nina Hotel Island South reflects several broader hospitality trends in Hong Kong:
- Southside revitalisation: Wong Chuk Hang has evolved into a creative and residential district, supported by MTR connectivity.
- Communal space demand: Hybrid work and extended stays are driving demand for flexible social-work environments.
- Value-led urban positioning: With regional travel recovering, midscale and upper-midscale hotels that balance design and accessibility are gaining traction.
- Portfolio consistency: Expanding Nina Communal strengthens brand cohesion across Nina Hospitality properties.
The project also signals continued investment by Nina Hospitality amid a competitive Hong Kong hotel market adapting to post-pandemic travel patterns.
