Mandarin Oriental has named seasoned luxury hotelier Paul Jackson as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and Area Vice President, Operations, as the iconic flagship prepares for a landmark renovation and a new era of guest-centric innovation across the region.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced the appointment of Paul Jackson as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, alongside his expanded role as Area Vice President, Operations, overseeing the Group’s portfolio across Hong Kong, Macau, Tokyo, and the upcoming Mandarin Oriental, Manila, Makati.

Jackson will be based in Hong Kong from January 2026, returning to the Group at a pivotal moment as its original flagship embarks on a transformative new chapter.

A Veteran Leader Returns to Mandarin Oriental

With more than 30 years of experience in luxury hospitality, Jackson brings deep operational expertise across Asia-Pacific, Europe and China. His career spans leadership roles at some of the world’s most celebrated hotels, including The Ritz Hotel London, Grand InterContinental Seoul, and earlier service within the Royal Household in the United Kingdom.

Jackson’s connection to Mandarin Oriental runs deep. He previously spent a decade with the Group, joining Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong as Executive Assistant Manager, Food and Beverage, before being appointed Hotel Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok and later General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Sanya, where he successfully led the hotel’s opening and strengthened its position as a leading luxury destination in southern China.

From Heritage Icons to World-Class Resorts

Following his earlier tenure with Mandarin Oriental, Jackson served as General Manager of Claridge’s in London, where he elevated the hotel’s global profile while steering a major enhancement programme that balanced heritage with contemporary luxury.

He later led Capella Singapore, reinforcing its reputation as one of Asia’s premier luxury resorts through a strong focus on guest experience, operational excellence and thoughtful placemaking.

This combination of heritage stewardship and resort leadership positions Jackson uniquely to guide Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong through its next phase of evolution.

Leading a Landmark US$100 Million Transformation

Jackson assumes leadership as Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong embarks on a more than US$100 million renovation, reimagining the hotel for the next generation of luxury travellers.

Planned enhancements include:

  • Redesigned public spaces, guestrooms and suites
  • The introduction of 11 residential-style apartments
  • A new Wellness Club, elevating the hotel’s wellbeing offering
  • A strengthened focus on destination dining

Among the most anticipated openings is Terrace Boulud by Mandarin Oriental, a rooftop brasserie by internationally acclaimed chef Daniel Boulud, set on the 25th floor of LANDMARK PRINCE’S Building and scheduled to open in March 2026. The concept will further cement the hotel’s position as one of Hong Kong’s most exciting culinary destinations, alongside enhancements to its existing dining venues.

Regional Oversight and Strategic Leadership

In his dual role as General Manager and Area Vice President, Operations, Jackson will work closely with Group leadership to drive operational excellence, talent development and guest-centric innovation across key Mandarin Oriental hotels in the region, while safeguarding the legacy and distinctive character of the Hong Kong flagship.

“Paul’s deep understanding of luxury hospitality, his long-standing connection with Mandarin Oriental and his experience leading some of the world’s most celebrated hotels make him exceptionally well-suited to this role,” said Amanda Hyndman, Chief Operating Officer, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. “We are delighted to welcome him back to the Group and to our flagship in Hong Kong, where the story of Mandarin Oriental first began.”

Leadership Transition

A British national, Jackson is known for a leadership style that blends personalised service, cultural sensitivity, culinary excellence and thoughtful design—hallmarks closely aligned with Mandarin Oriental’s reputation for legendary hospitality.

He succeeds Greg Liddell, who will take on the role of Regional Vice President, Operations, overseeing Mandarin Oriental properties across Asia and the Middle East, with responsibility for strategic leadership and support across the Group’s expanding portfolio.
