Regent Hong Kong Launches Cinema-Inspired Dining Experience Inspired by Hong Kong Films

Luxury hospitality meets cinematic storytelling as Regent Hong Kong unveils A Cinematic Taste of Hong Kong – Iconic Hong Kong Dishes from the Silver Screen, a new dining experience created in collaboration with the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild. Served at The Lobby Lounge with panoramic views across Victoria Harbour, the experience celebrates Hong Kong’s rich film heritage through dishes inspired by memorable moments from the city’s iconic cinema.

The launch marks the first chapter of Regent Hong Kong’s new A Curated Cultural Experience, an initiative designed to immerse guests in Hong Kong’s culture through cuisine, heritage, wellness and local craftsmanship.

Hong Kong Cinema Reimagined Through Food

For decades, food has played an important role in Hong Kong cinema, quietly expressing family bonds, friendship, nostalgia and everyday life. With A Cinematic Taste of Hong Kong, Regent Hong Kong transforms those memorable on-screen moments into refined dishes that reflect the city’s culinary identity.

Curated by Executive Chef Calvin Choi together with The Lobby Lounge Head Chef Raymon Ip, the menu combines premium ingredients with classic local flavours while paying tribute to Hong Kong’s cinematic legacy.

Guests dine against the backdrop of Victoria Harbour, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame one of the city’s most recognisable skylines, adding another layer to the storytelling experience.

Signature Dishes Inspired by the Silver Screen

The menu features contemporary interpretations of beloved Hong Kong comfort food, each inspired by memorable scenes from local films.

Highlights include the Lobster & Prawns Wonton Noodle Soup, where handcrafted lobster and prawn wontons are served in an aromatic dried flounder broth enriched with lobster oil.

The Char Siu Egg Rice elevates a Kowloon Walled City favourite with Spanish Ibérico pork collar, rice infused with applewood-smoked bacon oil, a crisp free-range Italian Montagna egg and homemade soy sauce.

Another standout is the Premium Black Angus Beef Balls & Mantis Shrimps in Beef Bone Marrow Soup, a playful tribute to Hong Kong cinema’s famous “exploding beef balls”, crafted with premium Black Angus beef and served in a deeply flavoured bone marrow broth.

Desserts continue the cinematic theme with Hokkaido Tokachi Adzuki Bean Put Chai Ko, while the hotel’s elevated take on Hong Kong-style French Toast combines crunchy peanut butter, crushed cornflakes, Bordier butter blended with salted egg yolk and local honey.

A New Cultural Journey Beyond Dining

The culinary experience also introduces A Curated Cultural Experience, Regent Hong Kong’s evolving programme that invites guests to discover the city’s traditions through immersive activities.

Future experiences are expected to include private kung fu sessions inspired by Hong Kong’s legendary martial arts films, bespoke mahjong tile painting with local artisans, Chinese calligraphy workshops and wellness rituals that reflect the city’s artistic and cultural heritage.

Rather than simply offering luxury accommodation, the hotel aims to create meaningful encounters that connect visitors with Hong Kong’s identity through its three defining themes: Harbour, Cinema and Culture.

Celebrating Hong Kong’s Storytelling Tradition

Reflecting on the collaboration, Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild President and acclaimed filmmaker Soi Cheang said Hong Kong cinema has always found its emotional heart in everyday moments shared over food.

“Hong Kong cinema has never lived only in its heroes — it breathes in the quiet, human frames: a father and son over a plate of char siu rice, two lovers sharing wonton noodles in silence, the warmth of a meal at the end of a long day. In our films, food is never just food; it is memory, identity, and the tender pulse of a city forever dreaming.”

His remarks highlight the shared storytelling traditions of cinema and cuisine, where timing, craftsmanship and emotion come together to create lasting memories.

A Hotel with a Cinematic Legacy

Cinema has long been woven into Regent Hong Kong’s identity. The hotel has appeared in productions including Dynasty (1985), Noble House (1988) and Nightwatch (1995), reinforcing its reputation as one of Hong Kong’s most recognisable luxury hotels.
