During a recent trip home to Hong Kong last week, I had the opportunity to tour the newly reopened and iconic Regent Hong Kong, thanks to the kind assistance of the hotel’s efficient Marcom team. And then, midway through the visit, as I stepped off the escalator, I quite literally bumped into Michel Chertouh, Managing Director of Regent Hong Kong. What are the odds?
Reborn
Regent Hong Kong, with its sweeping views of Victoria Harbour, first opened in 1980 and quickly rose to prominence as one of Asia’s leading luxury hotels. In 2001, the property entered a new chapter as InterContinental Hong Kong, a position it held for two decades. Following IHG Hotels & Resorts’ acquisition of a majority stake in Regent Hotels & Resorts in 2020, plans were set in motion to restore the Regent name to the city. After a comprehensive three-year renovation and conversion programme, Regent Hong Kong has now been reborn on the harbourfront.
Designer
Visionary Hong Kong-born architect and interior designer Chi Wing Lo was tasked with the overhaul of property’s transformation. Lo, lived and worked across the U.S., Greece, and Italy for the last 30 years, has brought his unique blend of artisan craftsmanship and understated elegance to his first hotel project. Lo had served as art director for the luxury Italian brand Giorgetti for 3 years; and in collaboraton with Maroni has his own collection of furniture the Dimensione Chi Wing Lo®.
Arrival
Hotel’s grand entrance with a cascading fountain sets the stage. While reaching the hotel, the tranquil sound of a feng shui fountain drew me towards the 18 golden domes illuminating the gleaming porte cochère.

Regent’s exemplary doormen greet guests at the majestic wooden doors, offering a glimpse of the interior through solid glass strips secured by metal bolts, and marking the transition from the fast-paced city life to the peace and tranquility of Regent Hong Kong.

From dietary requirements to family excursions, Regent Experience Agents are a single point of contact ensuring that each guest’s experience is effortless and tailored to their occasion or desire from pre-arrival through to departure.

At the check-in counter, guests are greeted by the Regent Experience Agents at a stunning long counter made of softly lit translucent onyx, set in front of a 15-meter-long digital art LED screen showcasing a film capturing the spirit of “Nourish”.

An inseparable part of the collective memory of all those who have celebrated weddings, galas and milestone occasions in the Regent Ballroom, the rare Calacatta white marble staircase has been meticulously conserved – forming a focal point in the extended lobby area.

Dining
Regent Hong Kong’s dining scene is a trove of six globally acclaimed culinary experiences. Exceptional cuisine blends emerging culinary talent with local flavours and cultural encounters.
