Marriott International has signed an agreement with Shanghai SIIC North Bund New Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd. to bring the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve to Shanghai. Scheduled to open in 2030, the property will also mark the debut of the brand’s new urban Reserve concept, created specifically for a select group of the world’s leading global gateway cities.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai Marks a New Urban Chapter
Senior executives from Marriott International and SIIC Group marked the milestone at a signing ceremony.
Representing Marriott International were Anthony Capuano, President and CEO; David Marriott, Chairman of the Board; Mao Yibing, President of Greater China; Bart Buiring, Managing Director, Luxury, Greater China; and Gavin Yu, Chief Development Officer, Greater China.
They were joined by Zhang Qian, President of SIIC Group; Huang Haiping, Vice President of SIIC Group and Chairman of Shanghai SIIC North Bund Landmark Construction and Development Co., Ltd.; Wang Zheng, Director of SIIC Group and General Manager of the company; Song Bo, Deputy Party Secretary and President of Shanghai Chengtou Group; Liu Yanping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Shanghai Chengtou Assets Group Co., Ltd.; and Xue Yongshen, Vice President and Chief Economist of Shanghai Construction Group.
Together, the executives marked the beginning of a new urban chapter for Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Shanghai.
What Is the Ritz-Carlton Reserve Urban Concept?
Ritz-Carlton Reserve has traditionally been defined by rare, destination-driven estates offering privacy, highly personalized service, and a deep connection to their surroundings.
With its new urban Reserve concept, Marriott International is reimagining these principles for a carefully selected group of global gateway cities.
Rather than becoming a conventional luxury hotel, each urban Reserve is envisioned as a sanctuary within the city. Guests will instead engage with the destination through immersive cultural experiences, discovery, and a thoughtfully curated approach to wellbeing.
The concept therefore creates a sense of escape without requiring physical remoteness. Instead, discretion, transformative experiences, and a slower, more intentional rhythm will define the guest experience.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai to Bring a Sanctuary to the City

The hotel is intended to become a sanctuary within the city’s energy while remaining unmistakably connected to Shanghai and delivering the bespoke, transformative experiences associated with Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
A New Luxury Landmark for Shanghai’s North Bund
Located along Shanghai’s North Bund, Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai will form part of one of the city’s most significant waterfront developments.
The wider project will combine commercial activity, lifestyle experiences, and architectural distinction, further strengthening Shanghai’s luxury hospitality and lifestyle offering while contributing to the city’s position as a leading global destination.
Upon its opening, the property is expected to make Shanghai the only city in the world where all eight of Marriott International’s luxury brands are represented.
Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai to Rise 480 Meters
Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai will serve as the ultra-luxury hospitality component of a landmark mixed-use development.
The development will also include retail and office spaces, residences, and an observatory deck. Rising approximately 480 meters across 103 floors, it is set to become a defining addition to Shanghai’s evolving skyline.
The hotel itself is expected to feature 110 guestrooms and suites, with an emphasis on privacy, discretion, personalization, and a strong sense of place.
Many accommodations will overlook the Bund and Huangpu River. The property will also offer a collection of suites, including a Presidential Suite.
Dining, Wellness and Cultural Experiences
Dining, wellness, and cultural immersion will sit at the heart of the Ritz-Carlton Reserve Shanghai experience.
The hotel is expected to feature a specialty restaurant, Chinese dining experiences, a lobby lounge, and a bespoke bar. Beyond dining, an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and spa and wellness retreat will provide spaces dedicated to relaxation and restoration.
Together, these facilities reflect the growing importance of wellbeing, longevity, meaningful connection, and immersive experiences within the luxury travel sector.
Rather than simply providing an escape from Shanghai, the hotel aims to offer a more intentional way of experiencing the city.
