Sands China Welcomes 1.1 Billion Visitors as The Venetian Macao Marks 18 Years

What does this Sands China milestone mean for Macao’s tourism future?

Sands China Ltd. has celebrated a landmark achievement, welcoming its 1.1 billionth visitor across its Macao properties since opening in 2004. The milestone was marked with a ceremony at The Venetian® Macao, coinciding with the resort’s 18th anniversary.

From the opening of Sands® Macao in 2004 to the launch of The Venetian Macao in 2007 — then the world’s second-largest building — the company has played a defining role in reshaping the Cotai Strip. Its portfolio now includes The Plaza® Macao (2008), The Parisian® Macao (2016), and the transformed Londoner Macao, together creating a European-themed destination offering world-class hospitality, entertainment, and business experiences.

Today, Sands China contributes significantly to Macao’s positioning as a world centre of tourism and leisure:

  • Investment: Over MOP 134.5 billion committed to Macao.
  • Scale: More than 10,000 hotel rooms, 150 dining options, and 760 retail outlets.
  • Events: Premier MICE facilities spanning 150,000 sqm, plus two arenas and four theatres with capacity for 25,000 guests.
  • Community: Backed by 27,000 team members and 2,500 suppliers, with continued investment in non-gaming initiatives such as sports, culture, and tourism projects.

Dr. Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman, called the milestone “a testament to the popularity of Macao’s tourism offerings and the vitality of its economic development,” reaffirming Sands China’s commitment to the city’s sustainable future.
