The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is now accepting bookings for stays from 20 December. Located along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s Bang Rak District, the highly anticipated hotel centres on the historic Custom House building, which is currently undergoing a meticulous restoration.
Built in 1888 during the reign of King Rama V, the landmark was once regarded as Thailand’s gateway to the world. Today, the restored icon will form the heart of a new luxury hospitality destination that blends historic character with contemporary elegance.
Managed by Langham Hospitality Group, the 75-key property has been conceived as a tranquil urban retreat. It combines understated luxury with a strong sense of place, drawing inspiration from its riverside location and the surrounding heritage district.
Contemporary Design Inspired by Bangkok’s Riverside Heritage
The hotel’s 60 guestrooms and 15 suites will be located in a contemporary building positioned beside Custom House. Rather than recreating the historic complex, the design approach respects the site’s legacy while introducing a new chapter for the future.
Designed by renowned Thai architect Smith Obayawat, Founder and Principal of OBA, the curvilinear structure reflects the natural movement of the Chao Phraya River. It serves as a contemporary counterpart to the heritage building beside it, with Custom House envisioned as “the grandfather” and the new addition as “the grandson”.
Inside, residential elegance, thoughtful detailing and modern comfort create a seamless dialogue between past and present. Overlooking tranquil courtyards, the Bangkok skyline or the river flowing beside the hotel’s grand façade, the accommodations feature natural textures, soft lighting and subtle Siamese influences.
Together, these elements create a warm and refined atmosphere that reflects both local culture and The Langham’s signature style.
Design Details Reflect Thai Craftsmanship and Royal Heritage
The guestrooms and suites incorporate carefully considered design elements inspired by Thailand’s artistic traditions. Sculptural bathtubs, finished in brushed metal, take inspiration from precious materials and symbols of prestige, including coinage and gilded details associated with the prosperity of King Rama V’s reign.
Meanwhile, geometric etching references the rhombus mosaic patterns found throughout Thai temples, traditional architecture and sculpture. Bespoke decorative lighting further enhances the narrative by subtly reinterpreting royal emblems and ceremonial weaponry.
These design references become even more pronounced in the suites, where elements of Thai nobility are expressed through a more elevated residential experience. As a result, the interiors create a sophisticated balance between historical influence and contemporary craftsmanship.
New Dining, Wellness and Lifestyle Experiences
Beyond the guestrooms, The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok will feature a Chuan Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness centre equipped with Technogym’s luxury Sandstone collection, marking the first installation of its kind in Asia.
At the centre of the property, the restored Custom House and adjoining heritage structures will become public spaces for guests and visitors. The revitalised buildings will serve as vibrant gathering places, supported by a collection of dining, drinking and lifestyle concepts that will be announced in due course.

Exploring Bangkok from a Riverside Address
The hotel will also provide convenient access to some of Bangkok’s most celebrated attractions. Guests will be within easy reach of the cultural destination Asiatique The Riverfront, the expansive ICONSIAM shopping mall, Bangkok’s historic Chinatown district and the creative neighbourhood of Charoen Krung, known for its galleries, cafés and artistic spaces.
In addition, bespoke transport experiences will enhance the stay, including private river journeys and chauffeured Bentley transfers. These experiences further reflect the property’s combination of heritage, culture and contemporary luxury.
