The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi
The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi has become the first hotel in Langkawi to receive the Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality badge, meeting over 100 rigorous sustainability standards set by Forbes Travel Guide. The recognition highlights the resort’s dedication to environmental protection, employee and guest wellbeing, and community support.
This latest accolade follows a successful year, with the resort named Best Hotel Pool in Malaysia by Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia-Pacific 2025, listed among Travel + Leisure’s Top 500 Hotels in the World, and voted Best Resort in Malaysia in DestinAsian’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
Balancing sustainability with natural luxury, the resort offers immersive programs such as the Trails of Wonder rainforest expeditions, Sea Cucumber Nursery for ocean conservation, and the Eco-Discovery Centre for environmental education. Its Nibong Garden, built from recycled materials during the pandemic, supplies fresh herbs and plants for the resort’s kitchens while preserving native species.
The property’s efforts extend to cultural heritage and community engagement, including batik painting, soap making, mangrove restoration, and the Plant-A-Tree program. Collaborations with Langkawi’s UNESCO Global Geopark and the Hereafter Project reinforce its 360-degree approach to responsible tourism.
General Manager Mafalda Tavares said the accreditation reflects the dedication of the resort’s team and its commitment to a greener future. Marine biologist and Sustainability Ambassador Fadzli Luqman added that the resort’s educational and hands-on initiatives allow guests to connect deeply with Langkawi’s biodiversity, culture, and community.
