Claudio Meli

Virtuoso Hotelier of the Year

Virtuoso, the leading global network for luxury and experiential travel, has named Claudio Meli, General Manager of THE PLACE Firenze, as its 2025 Hotelier of the Year at the 37th annual Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas.

One of Virtuoso’s highest honors, the award recognizes visionary hoteliers who combine passion, leadership, and excellence. Meli’s win is a standout achievement for independent hotels, earned through his success in shaping THE PLACE Firenze — a 20-room boutique property renowned as both a refined retreat and a cultural touchstone in Florence.

A Florence native, Meli joined THE PLACE at its 2003 opening and has since elevated it into one of Italy’s most celebrated independent hotels. Now part of The Hospitality Experience (THE), owned by the Babini family, the hotel reflects Meli’s deep respect for Florentine heritage and his innovative approach to modern hospitality.

His leadership extends to The Place of Wonders, the hotel’s philanthropic foundation dedicated to preserving Italy’s artisanal traditions. Guests can engage with master craftspeople in fields such as porcelain, leather, and goldsmithing, while scholarships support Florence’s next generation of artisans.

Guided by his philosophy of being a “tailor of hospitality,” Meli champions deeply personalized service, authentic local connections, and experiences crafted with the same care as a bespoke Florentine suit — making THE PLACE Firenze a true embodiment of the city’s spirit.
