50 Best has unveiled its extended list of hotels ranked from No.51 to No.100. The list highlights a broader range of outstanding hospitality experiences around the world.
The 100 hotels span 23 territories and 40 cities. They also include 10 independent hotels.
The extended ranking sets the stage for The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026. The main ranking will be unveiled in Paris on Tuesday, 15 September.
Asia Leads the Extended List
Asia tops the regional rankings with 20 hotels on the list. Japan accounts for seven of them.
Among the Japanese properties are Park Hyatt Tokyo at No.53, Hotel The Mitsui in Kyoto at No.79 and Waldorf Astoria Osaka at No.89.
Mainland China has two hotels on the extended list. Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen ranks No.90, while The Peninsula Shanghai ranks No.99.
France and Italy Lead Europe
La Réserve Paris takes the top spot on the extended list at No.51. Europe has 16 hotels ranked from No.51 to No.100.
France has three other properties on the list. These include new entries Ritz Paris at No.72 and Carlton Cannes at No.80.
Italy leads Europe with nine hotels featured in the extended ranking.
These include Il San Pietro di Positano at No.58, Castiglion del Bosco in Montalcino at No.62, Orient Express La Minerva in Rome at No.66 and Forestis Dolomites at No.68.
Elsewhere in Europe, the UK has two hotels on the list, while Turkey has one.
New York Dominates North America
New York leads North America’s rankings with three hotels.
The Fifth Avenue Hotel ranks No.78. It is also the winner of this year’s American Express Travel One To Watch Award.
The city is also represented by Aman New York at No.87 and The Greenwich Hotel at No.92.
Mexico has three properties on the extended list. They include Hotel Esencia at No.64, Montage Los Cabos at No.67 and Four Seasons Tamarindo at No.74.
South America, Oceania and Africa
South America has two properties on the list.
Palacio Nazarenas in Cusco, Peru, ranks No.54. Hotel das Cataratas in Brazil’s Iguassu Falls follows at No.77.
Oceania also claims two hotels. New Zealand’s Huka Lodge in Taupō ranks No.82, while The Calile in Brisbane, Australia, ranks No.83.
Africa has one hotel on the extended list. La Mamounia in Morocco ranks No.75.
50 Best Highlights a Broader Hospitality Community

The extended ranking provides a wider look at the hotels competing for recognition ahead of the main The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 ranking.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 will be livestreamed on the 50 Best YouTube channel at 20:00 Paris time on 15 September.
