Emirates and Marriott International have confirmed plans to launch a new all-inclusive luxury lodge in Australia’s Greater Blue Mountains, marking the global debut of the Ritz-Carlton Lodge concept and signalling renewed momentum for high-end, nature-based tourism in regional New South Wales.
A New Chapter for Luxury Lodges in Australia
Emirates and Marriott International, Inc. have signed an agreement to open Emirates Wolgan Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Lodge, a 40-key all-inclusive luxury property set within a 7,000-acre private conservancy in the UNESCO-listed Greater Blue Mountains region.
Scheduled to open in mid-2026, the project is expected to become the first Ritz-Carlton Lodge globally, extending the brand’s presence beyond urban and resort destinations into purpose-built wilderness sanctuaries. The development also represents a significant milestone for regional New South Wales tourism, positioning the Blue Mountains as a leading destination for premium, conservation-led travel.

Designed as a Conservation-Led Sanctuary
Ritz-Carlton Lodges are conceived as immersive retreats in nature, with a focus on low-density design, environmental stewardship, and place-specific luxury.
At Wolgan Valley, the lodge will occupy less than two percent of the protected landscape, preserving expansive open space and a sense of seclusion. The property will sit amid ancient bushland, native wildlife corridors, and some of Australia’s clearest night skies.
Planned highlights include:
- 40 standalone luxury lodges with private pools
- Signature wilderness and naturalist-led experiences
- A restored historic homestead serving as the social heart of the lodge
- All-inclusive dining showcasing regional Australian produce
Why It Matters
The launch reflects a broader shift in luxury travel towards experience-driven, nature-based stays, particularly in destinations that balance exclusivity with sustainability.
For New South Wales, the project arrives at a time when regional tourism demand is accelerating, driven by both domestic travellers and high-value international visitors seeking immersive, low-impact experiences. For Marriott International, the lodge represents a strategic expansion of The Ritz-Carlton brand into a fast-growing luxury segment that prioritises space, privacy, and connection to nature.
Emirates’ Long-Term Investment in Wolgan Valley
Emirates has been invested in Wolgan Valley since 2006, with AU$150 million committed to developing one of Australia’s earliest conservation-based luxury resorts. The project included the restoration of heritage buildings, including an 1832 homestead, and large-scale environmental programmes such as the planting of more than one million native trees.
The airline group is now investing an additional AU$50 million to reposition the property under The Ritz-Carlton Lodge brand, working closely with Marriott on design, service standards, and guest experience.
Despite unavoidable closures following damage to Wolgan Valley Road in 2023, Emirates maintained the site and retained a locally employed caretaker team, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region.
Community and Regional Economic Impact
The reopening of Emirates Wolgan Valley as a Ritz-Carlton Lodge is expected to:
- Create up to 150 local jobs
- Increase demand for regional suppliers and producers
- Strengthen tourism flows into the Lithgow and Greater Blue Mountains area
Emirates has confirmed continued engagement with the Wolgan Valley community and local authorities as the project progresses.
Access and Arrival Experience
Guests will reach the lodge via:
- A guided four-wheel-drive journey along the Donkey Steps, designed as part of the rural arrival experience
- Helicopter transfers offering aerial views of the Blue Mountains landscape
Both options reinforce the sense of journey and separation from urban environments.
Responding to Rising Demand for Nature-Based Luxury
According to Tourism Research Australia, regional NSW recorded 15.5 million domestic visitors in the quarter to September 2025, generating AU$5.9 billion in visitor spend. International visitation added a further 727,300 arrivals and AU$1.2 billion in expenditure, underlining the region’s growing global appeal.
The Wolgan Valley lodge aligns with this momentum, targeting travellers seeking premium accommodation paired with meaningful environmental and cultural engagement.
A Complement to The Ritz-Carlton’s Australian Portfolio
The lodge will join The Ritz-Carlton’s existing Australian properties, including The Ritz-Carlton, Perth and The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne, while introducing a new format focused entirely on wilderness immersion.
