Digital travel platform Agoda has revealed the latest travel trends for Indonesia in the first half of 2026, highlighting strong inbound travel interest from across the Asia Pacific region.
Based on accommodation searches made between January and June 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, Agoda’s data shows Malaysia and Singapore as Indonesia’s top two source markets for travel interest. Meanwhile, South Korea, which previously ranked first, has moved to third place.
Australia follows in fourth position, while China has become Indonesia’s fastest-growing source market. For the first time, China entered the top five rankings, surpassing Japan as traveller interest continues to rise.
China Drives Growth in Indonesia Travel Interest
Indonesia’s growing appeal reflects changing travel preferences across Asia Pacific, with more travellers looking beyond traditional destinations and seeking diverse experiences.
Among Indonesia’s key inbound markets, China recorded the strongest year-on-year growth, with travel interest increasing by 44%. The momentum is expected to continue throughout 2026, supported by Indonesia’s efforts to expand air connectivity and introduce new flight routes between the two markets.
Travel interest from Malaysia and Singapore also increased, rising 18% and 17% respectively. At the same time, demand from some North Asian markets, including Japan and South Korea, has softened.
The shift in traveller preferences may also be influenced by currency movements. A weaker Indonesian rupiah has helped strengthen Indonesia’s appeal among travellers looking for value-driven experiences.
Bali Remains Indonesia’s Top Destination as New Hotspots Rise
Agoda’s insights also reveal the destinations attracting the highest international travel interest in Indonesia. Bali continues to lead the rankings, followed by Jakarta, Batam Island, Lombok, and Bandung.
While Bali remains the country’s most popular destination, the strong performance of Jakarta and Batam highlights growing interest in urban gateways and border-island destinations. At the same time, established leisure destinations such as Lombok and Bandung continue to attract international visitors.
Beyond Indonesia’s most searched destinations, Agoda identified several emerging locations gaining attention from travellers. Sukabumi recorded the strongest growth, with travel interest increasing 4.6 times year-on-year.
Located in West Java, Sukabumi is attracting visitors with its lush highlands, waterfalls, and geopark landscapes. In eastern Indonesia, Manado and Gorontalo ranked as the second and third fastest-growing destinations, with searches increasing approximately three times compared with the first half of 2025.
These destinations appeal to travellers through their marine biodiversity, distinctive local cultures, and diverse culinary experiences.
Agoda Sees Continued Growth Potential for Indonesia Tourism

The strong growth in interest to destinations like Sukabumi, Manado and Gorontalo show that travelers are eager to explore more of what Indonesia has to offer beyond Bali.”
