Bar Sathorn, the cocktail destination at the iconic The House on Sathorn at W Bangkok, has been named No. 17 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026. The bar also received the prestigious Nikka Highest Climber Award after making the biggest leap in this year’s ranking.
Bar Sathorn rose an impressive 31 places, from No. 48 in 2025 to No. 17 in 2026. The result marks the bar’s highest-ever placement and strengthens its position among Asia’s leading cocktail destinations.
Its success reflects a distinctive approach to storytelling through drinks. At Bar Sathorn, cocktails draw inspiration from the stories, people and flavours that have shaped both the historic mansion and Bangkok.
Cocktails Rooted in The House on Sathorn’s History
Located within The House on Sathorn, Bar Sathorn offers a cocktail experience unlike any other in Bangkok.
Over the past century, the landmark has served as a private residence, a luxury hotel and the Soviet embassy. It later became part of W Bangkok.
Today, its grand Corinthian columns, elegant interiors and rich history provide the setting for a contemporary cocktail programme. Each drink connects with the stories and heritage of the mansion and the city.
Marco Dong Leads Bar Sathorn’s Beverage Programme
Marco Dong, who built the programme that earned Bar Sathorn its recognition, has been promoted to Beverage and Bars Manager.
Born in Milan, Dong has built a career spanning eight countries and four continents. He continues to lead Bar Sathorn while overseeing the drinks programme and bar operations across all of W Bangkok’s venues.

“I’m incredibly happy and grateful. This recognition reflects years of hard work, dedication, and commitment. I truly believe sincere hospitality always wins, when you stay humble, authentic, and genuinely care about what you do,” says Marco Dong.
Alexander Kellermann, General Manager of W Bangkok, added: “We are proud to see Bar Sathorn continue to grow, and we remain committed to delivering experiences that blend W Hotels’ modern flair with the rich heritage of Sathorn.”
Four Chapters Tell the Story of Sathorn
Bar Sathorn’s signature menu is divided into four chapters. Together, they take guests on a multi-sensory journey through different eras of The House on Sathorn.
“History of Sathorn” (1888–1926) celebrates the origins of the cocktail scene with timeless drinks.
“Hotel Royal” (1926–1948) captures the glamorous era of Madame Staro through Italian-inspired creations.
“Embassy Row” (1948–1999) honours Sathorn Road’s diplomatic past with global cocktails elevated by bold Thai spices.
Finally, “The Present” (1999–today) explores how Bar Sathorn combines historical charm with modernity through inventive drinks.
Bangkok Brunch Brings Thai Flavours to the Glass
One of the programme’s signature creations is Bangkok Brunch. The cocktail reimagines familiar brunch flavours through a distinctly Thai lens.
Creyente mezcal and 1800 Blanco tequila are layered with salted tomato water, rice vinegar and vanilla. Thai basil and chilli then add aromatic notes inspired by pad kaprao.
A whole frozen tomato sits at the heart of the serve, acting as the ice while reinforcing the cocktail’s savoury tomato profile.
The result is a bold, savoury cocktail that captures Bar Sathorn’s philosophy of transforming local references into contemporary drinking experiences.
Thai Ingredients and Rooftop Sustainability
Beyond its signature menu, Bar Sathorn continues to embrace its adopted home through a rotating monthly specials programme.
The series celebrates Thailand’s agricultural landscape and artisanal producers. Previous editions have highlighted Thai cacao, wild honey, pomelo and hilltribe coffee.
Many of the herbs, edible flowers and seasonal greens used throughout the menu are also harvested from W Bangkok’s rooftop garden.
The garden is nourished by compost created from the hotel’s food waste. As a result, it reflects the team’s thoughtful approach to ingredient sourcing and sustainability.
Bar Sathorn’s Rise Reflects Bangkok’s Cocktail Scene
The recognition comes as Bangkok continues to strengthen its position as one of Asia’s most dynamic cocktail capitals.
As the recipient of the Nikka Highest Climber Award, Bar Sathorn joins an esteemed group of bars recognised not only for excellence, but also for momentum, creativity and contributions to the region’s evolving bar culture.
Following this milestone, the team plans to continue developing the cocktail programme through new collaborations, seasonal menus and immersive guest experiences.
At the same time, Bar Sathorn remains committed to honouring the legacy of one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks while helping shape the future of cocktail culture in the region.
With its latest recognition marking a new chapter, Bar Sathorn invites returning guests and first-time visitors to experience the cocktail programme that has propelled it to No. 17 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026.
Bar Sathorn is open daily from 2:30 PM to 1 AM, with last orders at 12:30 AM.
