EAST Beijing has appointed Dany Lützel as General Manager, with the Swiss national taking responsibility for the hotel’s operations and team.
Lützel has more than 25 years of luxury hospitality experience across the Chinese Mainland and Europe. He has spent more than a decade in the Chinese Mainland and has held senior positions with Niccolo Hotels, Kempinski, Radisson Blue and Hotel Éclat Beijing.
Before joining EAST Beijing, Lützel led the pre-opening of the 252-room Niccolo Chongqing. Most recently, he worked at Hotel Éclat Beijing, where he was involved in the property’s operations and development.
Dany Lützel’s China hospitality career
Lützel’s connection with the Chinese Mainland began in 2010, when he attended Fudan University in Shanghai during the World Expo.
He later moved to Chongqing for his first hotel General Manager role before returning to Beijing. Having lived and worked in several Chinese cities, he brings experience of the country’s changing hospitality sector.
Lützel said he remains inspired by China’s dynamism, ambition and spirit of reinvention.
He first encountered EAST Beijing as a guest. The hotel’s design, atmosphere and connection with the local community attracted his interest, and those aspects continue to influence his approach to the property.
Building on EAST Beijing’s community
Lützel said his priority will be to develop the hotel’s existing community while creating more opportunities for guests and local residents to meet.
“I want to build on EAST Beijing’s strong community and create even more reasons for people to come together,” says Dany. “Achieving that starts with people. I’ve always believed that exceptional hospitality is built on openness, trust, and giving teams the confidence to bring their own personality and creativity to every interaction. When people enjoy what they do and feel empowered to be themselves, guests can feel that energy from the moment they walk through the door.”
His career has also included building and leading hotel teams. At EAST Beijing, he said this people-focused approach will remain central to how he works with colleagues and guests.
Exploring Beijing beyond the hotel
Outside the hotel, Lützel has developed a connection with Beijing through exploring the city and spending time with his family.
He enjoys visiting hutongs, galleries, neighbourhood cafés, restaurants and cultural attractions. He is also an avid runner, cyclist and outdoor enthusiast, activities that allow him to experience the capital from different perspectives.
For EAST Beijing, his appointment comes as the hotel enters what the property describes as its next chapter, with Lützel overseeing its operations and team.
