Hard Rock Hotel Malta officially opens in St George’s Bay following a guitar smash ceremony

Hard Rock Hotel Malta has officially opened in St George’s Bay, marking Hard Rock International’s first hotel on the island.

The five-star property opened following a guitar smash ceremony attended by Hard Rock executives, partners, local guests and international guests including Leomie Anderson, Corinna Brown, Gizzi Erskine and Arielle Free.

Located in St George’s Bay, the hotel is around 20 minutes from Malta International Airport. It is also within driving distance of Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Mosta Rotunda and Rabat Catacombs.

The opening event included live performances by several Maltese artists. These included Aiden, Malta’s Eurovision 2026 representative, Malta’s top-selling female artist Ira Losco and singer Shaun Farrugia.

The evening also featured an artistic swimming performance in the hotel’s guitar-shaped pool. Guests later continued the event with a DJ set by local DJ J Joy.

€350 Million Investment in Malta

According to the companies involved, the opening represents a €350 million direct investment in Malta’s tourism sector.

The project has also created several hundred new jobs across a range of specialised hospitality roles. These include master mixologists, culinary professionals, wellness therapists and luxury hospitality specialists.

“We are thrilled to see our vision for Hard Rock Hotel Malta come to life as part of the wider development of St. George’s Bay” commented Robert Debono, CEO of db Group. “We can’t wait to show guests the rich culture and incredible views that Malta is famous for, combined with Hard Rock’s iconic, music led experience in hospitality”

“The opening of Hard Rock Hotel Malta marks an incredibly exciting new chapter for St. George’s Bay, St. Julian’s, Pembroke and the wider island,” said Thomas Guss, General Manager of Hard Rock Hotel Malta. “We’re thrilled to finally welcome our guests and the local community and bring to life a vibrant new destination where music, entertainment, dining and unforgettable experiences come together. We can’t wait to see Hard Rock Hotel Malta become a new favourite on the island!”
