IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Newhope Real Estate to introduce the Regent brand to Chengdu. The signing marks Regent’s debut in the city while further strengthening IHG’s luxury footprint across Greater China’s leading urban destinations.

Scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2029, Regent Chengdu will embody the brand’s philosophy that life is at its best when guests rise above distractions. Regent hotels and resorts are designed to elevate guests beyond the noise, allowing them to become the very best versions of themselves.

Daniel Aylmer, Chief Executive Officer, Greater China, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said:

“Chengdu has long been a key market for IHG in Greater China and is also home to our West China regional headquarters. As a gateway to Southwest China, the city brings together rich cultural heritage, a vibrant consumer market and strong potential for luxury hospitality growth.

“Regent’s debut in Chengdu marks an important milestone for the brand while further strengthening our luxury presence in the region. Together with Newhope Real Estate, we look forward to creating a landmark hotel that captures the distinctive character of Chengdu while delivering Regent’s signature experience. We remain committed to creating meaningful stays for our guests and long-term value for our hotel owners.”

Regent Chengdu to Occupy Landmark Tower

Situated in the heart of Jinjiang District, Regent Chengdu will occupy Levels 39 to 48 of a 233-metre landmark tower. Moreover, the hotel will be just moments from Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square, and the city’s historic commercial centre.

The property will feature 180 guestrooms and suites, each offering panoramic views of the Chengdu skyline and the winding Jinjiang River.

Jiang Mengjun, Chairman and President of Newhope Real Estate, said:

“We are delighted to partner with IHG on the development of Regent Chengdu. As a company rooted in this city, we are committed to contributing to Chengdu’s continued evolution and creating destinations that connect the city with the world.

“Located within the D10 Wangjiang development, Regent Chengdu reflects our vision of bringing world-class hospitality to Chengdu while celebrating the city’s distinctive character. Together with IHG, we look forward to creating a destination where guests can experience the city through Regent’s refined approach to modern luxury.”

Regent Continues Global Expansion

For more than half a century, guests have made grand entrances through Regent’s doors, building a legacy shaped by cinematic moments, legendary stories and Asian influences.

Founded in 1970 and now part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, Regent continues to create uplifting experiences that inspire fresh perspectives and elevate guests above everyday distractions.

Regent Chengdu will feature thoughtfully designed spaces, signature dining venues and a dedicated spa sanctuary. In addition, the hotel will showcase the brand’s signature hospitality concepts, including Personal Havens, which provide intimate spaces for relaxation throughout the property.

Guests will also benefit from the Experience Agent programme, offering a single point of contact from pre-arrival through departure. Furthermore, Regent’s With Compliments touches will deliver thoughtful and personalised service throughout each stay, inviting guests to discover a rare sense of tranquillity high above Chengdu’s vibrant cityscape.

IHG Strengthens Regent’s Presence in Greater China

Since acquiring the Regent brand in 2018, IHG has undertaken a carefully curated revitalisation to reinforce its position within the ultra-luxury hospitality segment.

The brand’s reimagined era began with the opening of Regent Shanghai Pudong in 2020, followed by Regent Chongqing in 2021.

Today, Regent Hotels & Resorts continues to expand across many of the world’s most sought-after urban and resort destinations. The brand currently operates 11 hotels and resorts worldwide, comprising 3,212 rooms, while a further 12 properties with 2,210 rooms are in the development pipeline.

Within Greater China, Regent now operates six hotels across Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Chongqing and Taipei, with several additional projects under development. Consequently, the signing of Regent Chengdu represents another important milestone in the brand’s strategic expansion, further reinforcing its presence across the region’s key gateway cities.
