Parmelia Hilton Perth Continues Experience-Led Hospitality Strategy

At a time when experience-led hospitality is reshaping Australiaโ€™s hotel sector, Parmelia Hilton Perth has appointed seasoned hotelier Oliver Schwartz as its new General Manager, marking a leadership change that signals the beginning of another evolution for one of Western Australiaโ€™s most recognisable hotels.

The appointment comes as the historic Perth property prepares for significant future developments, positioning itself to compete in an increasingly experience-driven luxury hospitality market.

Widely recognised as Perthโ€™s first five-star hotel, Parmelia Hilton Perth has long held landmark status within the cityโ€™s accommodation landscape. Schwartz now steps into the role with more than 17 years of international hospitality experience spanning Melbourne, London and Beijing, bringing a blend of operational leadership and commercial strategy shaped across luxury and lifestyle hotel brands.

For the hotel, the leadership appointment arrives at a pivotal moment.

After reopening a new chapter following its AU$45 million refurbishment completed in 2021, the property has been steadily repositioning itself around premium guest experiences, business travel and lifestyle-driven offerings within Perthโ€™s CBD.

Speaking about his appointment, Schwartz acknowledged the hotelโ€™s longstanding reputation in Western Australiaโ€™s hospitality sector.

โ€œParmelia Hilton Perth is an institution. It was the stateโ€™s first five-star hotel and holds a special place in the hearts of many Western Australians,โ€ he said.

โ€œWith respect to that legacy, Iโ€™m excited to join the team at an exciting time for the business, as we begin to look to the future of Parmelia Hilton Perth and what that looks like.โ€

The hotel originally opened in 1969 and remains one of Perthโ€™s most established international-branded properties. Its major refurbishment modernised the faรงade, lobby, rooms and suites while introducing an Executive Lounge and a direct internal connection to Brookfield Place Perth, strengthening its positioning within the cityโ€™s corporate and lifestyle precinct.

Parmelia Hilton Perth Expands Experience-Led Hospitality with Vasse Felix Partnership

Industry observers have increasingly noted how Australian city hotels are pivoting toward curated guest experiences rather than relying solely on accommodation offerings โ€” a trend Parmelia Hilton Perth has actively embraced.

One of its recent initiatives includes a partnership with acclaimed Margaret River winery Vasse Felix, bringing winery-led experiences directly into Perthโ€™s CBD.

According to Schwartz, these collaborations reflect broader changes across the hospitality industry.

โ€œBringing the Vasse Felix experience to the CBD is an exciting indication as to where the industry is moving, as guest experiences and activations become more important than ever,โ€ he said.

โ€œIโ€™m delighted to be joining a team with such a creative focus, and looking forward to driving more experience-led offerings as we look to the future.โ€

Schwartz officially commenced the role on May 4, succeeding interim General Manager David Wain.

As Perth continues to attract growing corporate, events and premium leisure demand, the leadership transition at Parmelia Hilton Perth highlights how legacy hotels are increasingly balancing heritage with modern guest expectations โ€” particularly as experiential travel becomes central to hospitality strategy across Australia.
