Rosewood Hotel Group will promote Friedrich von Schönburg to Vice President, Operations, APAC, and Operations Excellence, Global, effective January 2027.

Based in Hong Kong, von Schönburg will oversee operations across Asia Pacific while supporting operational excellence across the group’s global portfolio.

He currently serves as Regional Vice President and Managing Director of Rosewood Villa Magna in Madrid, with responsibilities supporting the group’s portfolio in Spain and Italy. Previously, he held leadership roles at Rosewood London and El Palace Barcelona.

The new position will report to Anthony Ingham, Chief Operating Officer of Rosewood Hotel Group.

Friedrich von Schönburg’s Hospitality Career

Von Schönburg grew up around the hospitality industry in Marbella, where his father was the first general manager of Marbella Club.

He studied Business Management at École hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland. During his studies, he gained experience at hotels and hospitality businesses including Le Bristol in Paris, El Palace in Madrid, Puente Romano Beach Resort in Marbella, and Design Hotels in Berlin and London.

After graduating in 2008, he joined his sister, Sophie von Schönburg, to help launch Culdesac Experience, now known as Signne Creative House. The international company specialises in events and communications.

However, von Schönburg subsequently moved to London to pursue a career in hotels. He began at COMO Metropolitan London before joining The Savoy ahead of its reopening.

Three years later, he joined Rosewood Hotels & Resorts as Director of Guest Relations at Rosewood London, the group’s first European property. He later led the rooms division at The Connaught and Claridge’s.

In 2019, after a decade in London, he returned to Spain as Hotel Manager at El Palace Barcelona. He later became General Manager following the hotel’s repositioning.

In August 2022, von Schönburg returned to Madrid as General Manager of Rosewood Villa Magna. In January 2025, he became Regional Vice President.

At the time of his appointment as General Manager in 2022, he said: “I am extremely excited to return to the Rosewood family and lead this incredible, newly refurbished property in Madrid, the capital of the country I call home.”

He also described his continued interest in the group after leaving Rosewood London in 2016, where he had been part of the opening team.

“Since leaving Rosewood London in 2016, having been part of their opening team, I have followed every step and opening of this incredible collection of hotels. There is no property I could be more excited about leading than Rosewood Villa Magna, here in Madrid, one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in Europe. I look forward to working closely with the team and our associates around the world to represent Rosewood’s values and philosophy.”
