Spago Shanghai will host Wolfgang Puck and his son, Byron Lazaroff-Puck, on October 13 as part of The Generational Tasting Tour, a global four-hands dining series featuring the two chefs.

The Shanghai event follows previous stops in Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, İstanbul, Budapest, London, Maui and Singapore. The tour brings father and son together at a time of leadership transition for Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group.

When Wolfgang Puck opened the original Spago in 1982, he helped establish a style of cooking associated with California cuisine. The approach emphasises seasonal ingredients, creative techniques and influences from California’s food culture. More than four decades later, Spago restaurants continue to adapt this philosophy to the ingredients and culinary traditions of their respective locations.

In 2025, Byron Lazaroff-Puck became President of Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group after developing his culinary experience in Michelin-starred kitchens around the world. The tour brings the two chefs together across the group’s restaurants, exploring their respective approaches to cooking.

A Collaborative Menu Inspired by Shanghai

The Generational Tasting Tour features a multi-course tasting menu that combines dishes, flavours and techniques from Wolfgang Puck’s career with Byron’s contemporary approach, shaped by his international training and the destinations on the tour.

At the Shanghai dinner, local ingredients, flavours and culinary traditions will contribute to the menu, connecting the collaboration with the city’s food culture.

The experience also incorporates design and storytelling elements. Each guest receives a collectible newspaper-style menu inspired by Wolfgang’s longstanding interest in newspapers and storytelling. As the dinner progresses, the menu’s visual presentation shifts towards a contemporary style reflecting Byron’s approach to design and technology.

Film provides another connection between the two chefs, with reimagined movie posters and narrative details incorporated into the experience. Interactive augmented reality (AR) elements will also allow guests to access additional stories and content throughout the evening.

“Cooking with Byron has been one of the most meaningful parts of this tour for me,” says Wolfgang Puck. “I’ve watched him travel the world, build his own experiences and develop his own point of view. Now we get to cook together, learn from each other and share that experience through this tour. Shanghai has such an exciting food culture, and I’m very happy to bring the tour here.”

After Shanghai, the tour will continue to re/ASIAN in Bahrain on November 5, followed by CARAMÁ in Las Vegas on December 10. It will then return to Beverly Hills for its finale, bringing the series back to its starting point.
