UK Searches Reveal Changing Thailand Holiday Preferences

Destination2 analysed Google search trends from the past 12 months and identified strong growth across several travel categories.

  • 100% increase in searches for “Last minute Thailand holidays all inclusive”
  • 67% increase in “Romantic places to stay in Thailand”
  • 25% increase in “Religious holidays in Thailand”
  • 23% increase in “Family holidays to Thailand”
  • 22% increase in “Thailand wellness holiday”

According to Daniel Frost, Product Manager at Destination2, these trends reflect travellers’ growing interest in tailor-made experiences that extend well beyond traditional beach holidays.

Romantic Destinations in Thailand

Searches for romantic accommodation have climbed by 67% over the past year. Couples are increasingly seeking memorable experiences, from secluded island resorts to vibrant city escapes.

Daniel Frost said:

“Idyllic islands like Koh Samui, Phuket and Phi Phi are perfect for paradise beaches, while Bangkok and Chiang Mai offer hidden gems alongside iconic attractions.

Longtail boat rides provide an excellent way to discover secluded beaches such as Railay Beach, where visitors can choose between adventure on the eastern side or relaxation on the western shore.

Couples can also explore Bangkok’s or Phuket’s bustling night markets, sample authentic street food from local vendors and travel by tuk-tuk for an unforgettable experience. For something even more special, Thailand is home to numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. Many luxury hotels also offer Thai cooking classes, creating meaningful experiences to enjoy together.”

Spiritual and Cultural Experiences

Interest in religious holidays has increased by 25%, reflecting growing demand for authentic cultural experiences and spiritual wellbeing.

Daniel Frost explained:

“Thailand offers spiritual escapism unlike anywhere else. Meditation retreats and conversations with Buddhist monks provide a peaceful contrast to the country’s vibrant cities.

Festivals take place throughout the year, including Songkran in April, Loy Krathong in November and Makha Bucha during February or March.

Planning a holiday around these celebrations allows visitors to experience Chiang Rai’s famous White, Blue and Red Temples, colourful parades, candlelit processions, sunset rituals and mountain pilgrimages.”

Because festival dates follow the lunar calendar, travellers should always confirm event schedules before making travel arrangements.

Family-Friendly Thailand Holidays

Although Thailand is often associated with nightlife and bustling cities, it has become an increasingly popular destination for family holidays. Searches for family trips have risen by 23% during the past year.

Daniel Frost recommends Phuket’s Bang Tao and Karon beaches for their long sandy coastlines and attractions such as Splash Jungle Water Park.

He also highlights Khao Lak as a quieter alternative. Family-friendly resorts, including The Sands by Katathani, offer children’s pools, beach activities and Thai cooking classes suitable for both adults and children.

Families visiting Khao Lak can also enjoy ethical elephant sanctuaries and the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre. Meanwhile, adventure-loving families may appreciate ziplining at Phoenix Adventure Park in Chiang Mai.

Thailand Wellness Retreats Continue to Grow

Wellness tourism is also gaining momentum. Searches for Thailand wellness holidays have increased by 22%, driven by interest in yoga, meditation and holistic health.

Daniel Frost recommends several leading wellness resorts:

  • Keemala Phuket for yoga and meditation programmes.
  • Aleenta Phuket for structured wellness retreats and beachfront relaxation.
  • Shangri-La Chiang Mai for tranquil gardens designed for mindfulness.
  • The Sukhothai Bangkok for a peaceful urban sanctuary surrounded by tropical gardens and lotus ponds.

He advises travellers to first decide whether they are seeking yoga, meditation, spa therapies or a combination of wellness experiences before selecting a resort.

Adventure Holidays Across Thailand

Adventure travellers also have plenty to discover throughout Thailand.

Daniel Frost recommends ziplining through the forests of Chiang Mai and Phuket, where several of the country’s largest high-rope courses are located.

Water lovers can enjoy scuba diving, snorkelling, white-water rafting and waterfall climbing. Popular rafting locations include the Song Phraek River in Phang Nga and the Mae Taeng River in northern Thailand.

He also recommends visiting the Similan Islands, which are renowned for their exceptionally clear waters and world-class marine life.

For those who prefer exploring on land, Thailand’s national parks offer spectacular hiking trails. Quad biking is another popular way to experience the country’s diverse landscapes.
