TransNusa launches four new domestic routes, reaching 19 routes in three years and boosting air connectivity to Indonesia’s key tourism destinations
Indonesian carrier TransNusa has successfully launched four new domestic routes, marking a major milestone as it secures 19 routes within just three years of operations. The latest expansion underscores the airline’s steady yet confident growth strategy, focused on strengthening connectivity between Indonesia’s most sought-after destinations.

A Post-Pandemic Growth Model Built for Resilience
At the helm of TransNusa’s transformation is Group CEO Datuk Bernard Francis, a respected aviation veteran known for his out-of-the-box turnaround and change-management strategies. Under his leadership, TransNusa adopted a customised business model specifically developed to respond to shifting market demand in the post-pandemic era.

“What we envisioned for TransNusa was to build an Indonesian-based airline with strong fundamentals,” said Datuk Bernard. “Today, thanks to our hardworking and diligent team, the TransNusa brand resonates with confidence and trust.”
He also acknowledged the vital role played by China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited (CALC), the carrier’s shareholder, alongside key business partners, in shaping the airline’s sustainable growth.
Rapid International Expansion Within Six Months
TransNusa’s ambition has extended beyond domestic skies. Within six months of commencing operations, the airline launched its first international route between Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, followed by additional services to Singapore and China within the same year.
Notably, TransNusa became the first Indonesian airline to operate scheduled international flights to Guangzhou from three Indonesian cities, further strengthening Indonesia–China air connectivity and positioning the airline as a regional bridge between key markets.
Connecting Indonesia’s Tourism and Island Destinations
A central pillar of TransNusa’s strategy is enhancing direct air connectivity to Indonesia’s world-renowned tourism destinations.
“We want to play our part in boosting air connectivity within Indonesia’s internationally renowned island destinations,” Datuk Bernard explained. “Our focus is on increasing direct flights to destinations celebrated for their stunning landscapes and natural offerings.”
This approach has already seen the launch of milestone domestic routes such as Bali–Manado, alongside the latest additions unveiled this week.

Sustainable Change Through Measured Progress
Datuk Bernard attributes TransNusa’s success to a philosophy of incremental but lasting change, applied across people, operations, and business strategy.
“A 100% change is not possible overnight, but a 5% change implemented consistently allows for real and lasting impact,” he said.
This principle continues to guide TransNusa’s expansion as it balances ambition with operational stability.
