Wanda Hotels & Resorts international hotel expansion across Asia and Africa
Wanda Hotels & Resorts is expanding its international portfolio across destinations in Asia, Africa and beyond

Wanda Hotels & Resorts has surpassed 300 operating hotels, marking a new stage in the expansion of one of China’s major hotel management groups.

Established in 2007, the company provides services across hotel design, development, and operations. Its portfolio spans luxury, upscale, and mid-scale properties, from hotels in major cities to resorts in popular tourism destinations.

Wanda Hotels Reaches 300-Hotel Milestone

Wanda Hotels & Resorts now operates more than 300 hotels with over 52,000 rooms. In addition, more than 500 properties are in its development pipeline across more than 400 destinations worldwide.

According to Li Jun, president of Wanda Hotels & Resorts, the milestone reflects the company’s expanding brand portfolio and integrated capabilities across the hotel life cycle. It also highlights its long-term focus on the Chinese hospitality market.

At the same time, Wanda Hotels is strengthening its presence outside China.

International Expansion Gains Momentum

During the first half of 2026, Wanda Hotels & Resorts signed a management agreement in Zimbabwe. The deal marked the company’s entry into the African market.

Meanwhile, the group added projects in Cambodia and Laos. These include hotels in Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, and Luang Prabang.

The latest projects build on Wanda Hotels’ existing international presence. Its overseas portfolio includes properties in Istanbul, Türkiye; Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Vientiane, Laos.

The company has adopted an asset-light management model to support international growth. This approach allows Wanda Hotels to expand its brands while adapting operations to local markets.

Expanding Integrated Tourism Projects

In China, Wanda Hotels is increasingly developing its business around integrated tourism and hospitality projects.

Winter tourism is one example. Building on its experience at Changbaishan Wanda International Resort, the company is expanding toward a broader tourism model that combines skiing, wellness, hot springs, and family-oriented experiences.

Related projects are also being developed in Jilin province and other destinations.

Beyond resort tourism, Wanda Hotels is incorporating local cultural resources into selected projects.

In Danzhai, Guizhou province, the company combines Miao ethnic intangible cultural heritage with accommodation and educational experiences. In Yuxi, Yunnan province, another project draws on the legacy of composer Nie Er, integrating music, cultural experiences, retail, and accommodation.

Loyalty and Digital Distribution

Wanda Hotels & Resorts also continues to strengthen its customer and distribution platforms.

As of August 2026, its loyalty program had more than 25 million members. Since joining Tongcheng Travel in October 2025, the company has also sought to expand its distribution channels and digital capabilities through cooperation with the travel platform.

Together, these initiatives support Wanda Hotels’ broader expansion strategy as it grows both its hotel network and its range of tourism-related projects.
