Estonia is preparing for the 2026 festive season with Christmas markets, traditional food and winter activities across the country. New and expanded Jet2 services from five UK airports will give travellers more options for visiting Tallinn and other destinations this winter.

Tallinn Christmas Market Returns for 2026

Tallinn Christmas Market will return to the Estonian capital’s historic Town Hall Square from 20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Surrounded by medieval architecture, the market features wooden chalets selling handcrafted gifts and traditional Estonian Christmas treats.

Visitors can also enjoy the city’s famous Christmas tree, a tradition dating back to 1441. Meanwhile, seasonal food, festive drinks, cosy cafés and independent boutiques offer additional ways to explore Tallinn during the winter months.

Jet2 Adds More UK Flights to Tallinn

Jet2 will connect Tallinn with five UK departure airports this winter: Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds Bradford and London Gatwick. Return fares start from £52, according to the announcement.

The new services will operate on the following schedules:

  • Leeds Bradford: Flights begin on 27 November 2026, operating on Mondays and Fridays until 21 December.
  • London Gatwick: Services start on 19 November, operating on Thursdays and Sundays until 13 December.
  • Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester: Existing twice-weekly services will provide further options for travellers planning a festive break from 27 November.

With these connections, visitors can plan trips around Tallinn’s Christmas Market, whether travelling for a weekend, a family holiday or a winter escape with friends.

Christmas Markets and Winter Events Beyond Tallinn

Estonia’s festive season extends beyond the capital, with markets, seasonal events and family attractions in other parts of the country.

Tartu: Christmas City and Winter Folk Dance

Tartu’s Christmas City will run from 29 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. The city will also host Winter Folk Dance Day on 12 December.

Travellers heading between Tallinn and Tartu can stop in the village of Väätsa, known for its Christmas-themed window displays. These will be on view from 1 December to 6 January.

Pärnu: Christmas Market and Family Attractions

On Estonia’s western coast, Pärnu will host its Independence Square Christmas Market from 18 to 20 December. The event offers another option for visitors looking to explore the country beyond Tallinn.

Families can also visit Lottemaa Christmas Land outside Pärnu. The seasonal attraction will open from 12 December to 3 January 2027.

Hiiumaa: Glögi Café Day

The island of Hiiumaa will hold Glögi Café Day on 5 December. During the event, pop-up cafés across the island will serve seasonal refreshments and food.

Offerings include mulled wine, hot chocolate, gingerbread, cinnamon pastries, Christmas cake and savoury winter dishes. The event also provides an opportunity to discover local communities and their seasonal hospitality.

Winter Hiking in Lahemaa National Park

For travellers seeking outdoor activities, Lahemaa National Park offers an alternative to Christmas markets. Located within reach of Tallinn, the park is known for its forests and boglands, which visitors can explore through winter hiking and snowshoeing.

Visitors can walk along the boardwalks at Viru Bog and explore the surrounding forests. Jägala Waterfall is another potential stop, where the water may freeze during cold weather.

Planning a Christmas Holiday in Estonia

From Tallinn’s historic Christmas Market to regional celebrations and winter landscapes, Estonia offers a range of experiences for the 2026 festive season. Travellers can combine city sightseeing with family attractions, local food events and outdoor activities to explore more of the country during a winter holiday.
