IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement with Asset World Corporation (AWC) to introduce its Ruby brand to Thailand, with a 184-room hotel planned for Bangkok’s Sathorn district in 2027.

The project marks Ruby’s first hotel signing in Asia Pacific since the brand joined IHG’s portfolio. It also makes Bangkok the launch market for Ruby in the region, as the group looks to expand its lifestyle hotel offering across Southeast Asia.

The hotel will be located in the Silom–Sathorn area, one of Bangkok’s commercial districts. It will introduce the Ruby brand to Thailand through a concept combining design, music and local storytelling.

IHG and AWC Outline Bangkok Hotel Project

Speaking at a press conference, Rajit Sukumaran, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, East Asia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said:

“The introduction of Ruby to Thailand marks a significant milestone for IHG and our valued partners at Asset World Corporation. Over the years, we have built a strong and enduring partnership founded on a shared vision to create distinctive hospitality experiences that contribute to Thailand’s tourism growth.

“We are delighted to introduce Ruby’s first hotel in Asia Pacific following IHG’s acquisition of the brand, in partnership with AWC, bringing an exciting new premium lifestyle brand to one of the region’s most compelling travel markets.”

Wallapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and President of Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC), said:

“The debut of Ruby in Bangkok marks the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with IHG. Together, we are bringing the first Ruby hotel in Thailand and Asia Pacific to Bangkok’s Sathorn CBD. Through our shared vision and commitment to creating meaningful lifestyle experiences, we aim to accelerate growth, elevate hospitality standards and create long-term value for both organizations, stakeholders and the surrounding community. Inspired by Sathorn’s heritage and creative energy, Ruby will introduce a new concept of engaging lifestyle hospitality to the heart of Silom–Sathorn, designed for today’s experience-driven traveler.

Beyond providing exceptional stays, the hotel aims to create experiences that connect guests with the character of the destination while embracing communities through collaborations with local artists, social enterprises and the district’s creative ecosystem. Guided by AWC’s mission of Building Better Future, Ruby is designed to generate sustainable value for guests, communities, partners and shareholders, while contributing to sustainable tourism through community engagement, local economic participation and responsible destination development. Together with IHG, we look forward to bringing Ruby to travelers around the globe and strengthening Bangkok and Thailand as leading lifestyle destinations for generations to come.”

Ruby’s Positioning and Bangkok’s Role in Regional Expansion

Ruby is an urban lifestyle brand aimed at cosmopolitan, style-conscious travellers seeking experiences in city destinations. The brand’s hotels combine design-led interiors with elements drawn from their locations.

IHG said Ruby has established a presence in Europe through hotels that incorporate local character and design. For hotel owners, the group describes the brand’s operating model as adaptable, with flexible space requirements and designs suited to property conversions.

Commenting on the Bangkok project, Sukumaran said:

“Ruby will bring a fresh urban lifestyle experience to the heart of Sathorn, one of Bangkok’s key commercial districts,” commented Rajit. “The hotel will create a vibrant getaway for both visitors and locals. We believe Ruby’s signature blend of style, soul and character will add a new dimension to the neighbourhood and contribute to Sathorn’s evolution as a dynamic destination for business, culture and lifestyle.”

Bangkok as a Launchpad for IHG Brands

Bangkok has also served as the launch market for several other IHG brands in Southeast Asia.

“Bangkok has a proven track record as the launchpad for new IHG brands in Southeast Asia. Ruby is the sixth IHG brand to debut in the city before expanding across the region, following Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Kimpton and Vignette Collection,” added Rajit.

“This reflects not only our continued confidence in Thailand’s tourism sector and long-term growth potential, but also Bangkok’s unique position as a dynamic global city where new hospitality concepts can thrive,” Rajit noted. “We are proud to introduce another innovative brand that will further enrich the city’s diverse hotel landscape.”

“As Thailand continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most attractive travel destinations, Ruby is well-positioned to support the country’s tourism ambitions by appealing to a new generation of travellers. The brand’s focus on urban destinations and adaptive reuse projects also aligns with Bangkok’s ongoing evolution as a leading global city and gateway to the region,” said Rajit.

Ruby Bangkok Hotel to Open in 2027

Scheduled to open in 2027, the hotel will have 184 guestrooms. Its design will draw inspiration from the tropical glamour of 1920s Siam, combining design, music and local storytelling.

Planned features include a 24-hour bar and music-related experiences. These will range from live evening performances to Marshall speakers in guestrooms. Guests will also be able to borrow guitars.

Other planned facilities and features include curated social spaces, oversized beds, rainfall showers and self-service technology.

Ruby’s Global Expansion Plans

The Bangkok signing forms part of Ruby’s wider expansion plans. According to IHG, the brand has more than 40 hotels open or in development across Europe and the United States. It aims to grow its portfolio to more than 120 hotels over the next decade.

“With over 40 hotels open and in the pipeline across Europe and the United States, and ambitions to grow to more than 120 hotels over the next decade, Ruby’s arrival in Thailand marks the beginning of the brand’s Asia Pacific growth journey. Following Bangkok, IHG sees further opportunities for Ruby in urban destinations across the wider region,” added Rajit.

IHG’s Thailand Hotel Portfolio

The Ruby signing adds another brand to IHG’s existing presence in Thailand.

The group currently operates 42 hotels in the country and has a further 41 properties in its development pipeline. Its portfolio and pipeline span 11 destinations and 11 brands.

The Bangkok project represents IHG’s latest expansion in Thailand as it continues to develop its hotel portfolio across the country’s tourism markets.
