Lufthansa Group will expand its services to Japan for the 2027 summer flight schedule, adding flights to Tokyo-Narita and resuming seasonal services between Frankfurt and Nagoya. SWISS will also increase capacity, bringing the group’s total services to Japan to up to 50 flights per week.
The expansion reflects increased demand for travel to Japan. The group’s hub airlines will serve four Japanese destinations: Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya.
Lufthansa Resumes Frankfurt–Nagoya Flights
Lufthansa will resume its Frankfurt–Nagoya route on a seasonal basis for summer 2027, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The service will begin on March 29, 2027. Outbound flight LH736 will depart Frankfurt at 2:10 p.m. and arrive in Nagoya at 9:35 a.m. the following day, local time.
The return flight, LH737, will leave Nagoya at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Frankfurt’s Rhine-Main metropolitan area at 6:30 p.m. local time.
Nagoya is a major industrial and economic centre in Japan. Located in Aichi Prefecture, the city serves as a hub for the country’s automotive industry and other manufacturing businesses. It also has a connection to Japan’s samurai history and provides access to regional destinations, including the former imperial capital of Kyoto.
Through Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, passengers departing from Nagoya can connect to destinations across Europe and South America.
Lufthansa Adds Daily Frankfurt–Tokyo-Narita Service
From March 28, 2027, Lufthansa will introduce daily flight LH710 between Frankfurt and Tokyo-Narita for the summer season.
The flight will depart Frankfurt at 1:45 p.m. and arrive at Narita at 9:30 a.m. the following day, local time. The return service, LH711, will leave Tokyo-Narita at 11:20 a.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 6:40 p.m.
The additional service will expand Lufthansa’s seasonal capacity serving the Tokyo metropolitan area. Meanwhile, the airline will continue to operate daily flights from both Frankfurt and Munich to Tokyo-Haneda, the region’s other international airport.
Lufthansa will operate both the Nagoya and Narita routes with the Boeing 787-9, featuring its latest Allegris cabin configuration. The aircraft will offer 28 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy Class seats and 231 Economy Class seats.
Dieter Vranckx, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group, said: “Japan is a key market for the Lufthansa Group, and we are pleased to further strengthen our presence with additional capacity and the resumption of flights to Nagoya. Together with our expanded Tokyo services, these investments provide our customers with more travel options and support the continued diversification of our intercontinental network. As the leading European airline group in Japan, we remain committed to connecting people, cultures and economies between Europe and Japan”
SWISS Increases Japan Capacity
SWISS will also expand its Japan services in summer 2027, offering up to seven weekly flights between Zurich and Tokyo-Narita.
Across its hub airlines—Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways—the Lufthansa Group plans to operate up to 50 flights per week to Japan during the summer schedule. The services will cover Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya.
The group said the expanded schedule would strengthen its position among European airline groups serving Japan, measured by the number of weekly flights.
In addition, passengers can access further booking options through ANA, the Lufthansa Group’s joint venture partner, for travel to Japan and onward destinations.
Flights for the expanded summer 2027 schedule are available for booking.
