The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan is one of the most significant new luxury hotel openings in Wuhan this year. Rising high above the city, the hotel combines the Ritz-Carlton brand’s signature service with panoramic views of Wuhan and the Yangtze River.

I stayed at the hotel last week in a Club City Skyline View King Room on the 56th floor, the same floor as the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge.

Throughout my stay, the Club Lounge became my main dining destination, where I experienced breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. I also sampled coffee at The Lobby Lounge, cocktails at the Club Lounge Bar and lunch at Chu Yao Xuan, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant.

Arrival & First Impressions

My Ritz-Carlton experience began before I even entered the hotel.

As my car approached the building, Evan, the dedicated Concierge, opened the car door and greeted me. It was a simple gesture, but it immediately conveyed the level of personal service I would experience throughout my stay.

After entering the building, Evan escorted me to the reception on the 46th floor.

The arrival level is impressive. When the lift doors open, guests find themselves surrounded by several of the hotel’s public spaces, including The Lobby Lounge, The Lobby Lounge Terrace, Brasserie 46 and the Brasserie 46 Terrace, together with the reception area.

Reception was efficient and professional, with the check-in process handled smoothly.

Evan then personally escorted me to my Club City Skyline View King Room on the 56th floor.

The fact that the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge is also located on the 56th floor turned out to be a major convenience. I could simply leave my room and walk directly into the lounge for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.

There was another benefit: the Club Lounge faces the Yangtze River, while my room offered a spectacular city view from the opposite direction.

My Club City Skyline View King Room

My Club City Skyline View King Room was elegantly designed and decorated, with a refined contemporary aesthetic appropriate for a new Ritz-Carlton property.

But it was the view that immediately captured my attention.

Looking out from the 56th floor, I realised just how high above Wuhan I was. The city appeared almost like a miniature landscape below, giving the room a genuine bird’s-eye perspective.

The room made excellent use of its elevated position, turning the cityscape into part of the experience.

The bed was extremely comfortable, with bedding that delivered the restful experience expected from a Ritz-Carlton. The room was also well equipped with the facilities needed for a comfortable stay.

One detail I particularly liked was the bedside alarm clock with a wireless charger integrated into its top. It is a small but thoughtful touch, particularly for travellers who prefer to charge their phone beside the bed without dealing with cables.

The room’s proximity to the Club Lounge was another major advantage. Having the lounge on the same floor meant that breakfast, refreshments and evening drinks were only a short walk away.

For a Club-level stay, I found this combination of comfortable accommodation, impressive views and convenient lounge access particularly appealing.

The bathroom continued the room’s elegant and well-considered design. The walk-in shower delivered ideal and consistent water pressure throughout, while the toilet and bidet are housed in separate individual cubicles, with automated functions adding a contemporary touch.

A large bathtub sits alongside two well-positioned washing basins. The overall layout is spacious, practical and complete, with everything arranged thoughtfully for a comfortable stay.

The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge

The Club Lounge was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my stay.

Located on the 56th floor, the lounge has a commanding position over Wuhan and the Yangtze River. It is an elegant and comfortable space, but the views are what make it particularly memorable.

During my stay, I experienced the Club Lounge across almost the entire day, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The Club Lounge also offers an evening cocktails with accompanied canapés before dinner, although I unfortunately missed this particular service.

The food and beverage quality was consistently very good based on what I experienced.

Rather than treating the lounge simply as somewhere to grab a quick breakfast or drink, I found myself returning throughout the day because each service had its own character.

Breakfast provided a relaxed start to the day, while lunch and afternoon tea offered distinctly different experiences. By dinner, the atmosphere became more sophisticated as the city outside began to light up.

The Club Lounge also has a bar area serving cocktails, spirits and beer.

I enjoyed a cocktail there in the evening, when the atmosphere was particularly appealing. With Wuhan’s lights stretching below and the Yangtze River visible in the distance, it was a wonderful place to unwind.

Angus, the Club Lounge Manager, was another important part of the experience. He made a point of politely greeting guests, while the team throughout the lounge remained attentive and responsive.

The combination of food, service, setting and views made the Club Lounge much more than an executive lounge.

For me, it was one of the hotel’s most enjoyable spaces.

Dining at The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan

Although I did not have breakfast at Brasserie 46, I experienced a broad selection of the hotel’s food and beverage offering during my stay.

My dining experiences included:

  • Club Lounge: breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner
  • Club Lounge Bar: cocktails
  • The Lobby Lounge: coffee
  • Chu Yao Xuan: Chinese lunch
  • Brasserie 46: observed during my stay but did not dine there

Overall, the food and beverage quality was very good.

Brasserie 46

Located on the 46th floor, Brasserie 46 is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant.

I did not have breakfast here because I chose to take all my breakfasts at the Club Lounge. However, I had the opportunity to observe the restaurant during my stay.

Brasserie 46 appeared busy throughout both the day and evening, which was a good indication of its popularity.

The restaurant enjoys the same elevated advantage as the other public spaces on the 46th floor. Its bright and elegant interior is complemented by impressive exterior views over Wuhan.

The adjoining Brasserie 46 Terrace adds another dimension to the restaurant and makes particularly good use of the hotel’s high-rise position.

The Lobby Lounge

The Lobby Lounge is located just around the corner from Brasserie 46.

Both spaces share the 46th-floor setting, with bright, elegant interiors and impressive views over the city.

I stopped at The Lobby Lounge for coffee, partly because I wanted to experience the atmosphere of the space rather than simply pass through it.

The setting is particularly attractive during the day, when natural light fills the interior and the Wuhan skyline provides a dramatic backdrop.

The Lobby Lounge Terrace further extends the experience outdoors.

Chu Yao Xuan

I also had lunch at Chu Yao Xuan, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant, together with Marcel Damen, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan, and Cassidy, the hotel’s Marcom Director.

It was a very enjoyable lunch, and Marcel was extremely hospitable.

Our lunch was also personally significant for me. I had known Marcel from his previous role as General Manager of Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. I had not yet had the opportunity to visit him there when he was appointed General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan, to lead the hotel’s opening.

So this was a good opportunity for us to finally meet in person.

Chu Yao Xuan provided a fitting setting for the occasion, combining a refined Chinese dining experience with the sense of place that I think is important for a luxury hotel in Wuhan.

FLAIR

Another highlight of my stay was FLAIR, the hotel’s signature bar and dining destination on the 59th floor.

FLAIR is the hotel’s signature bar and dining destination, accessible directly by lift from the 46th floor. Open from 5:50pm until late, it offers a large public area and two substantial private rooms. One corner private room is particularly impressive, commanding a magnificent 180-degree view across Wuhan.

I toured the entire venue with a very pleasant member of the FLAIR team. Although I unfortunately did not take her name, she was attentive and welcoming throughout the tour.

The private rooms are available at RMB8,888 per booking, making them an appealing option for private celebrations, entertaining and corporate occasions where the view is very much part of the experience.

Wellness & Recreation

The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan has a substantial wellness offering, including a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa.

Although I did not initially plan to spend much time exploring the facilities, Joy, a very pleasant attendant, took me on a tour of the wellness facilities.

One interesting aspect is that Ritz-Carlton Wuhan owns and manages its wellness facilities directly rather than using a third-party operator. This allows the hotel to maintain greater control over the guest experience.

The swimming pool was superb and very well maintained.

I enjoyed it twice during my stay — once during the day and again at night. The atmosphere was completely different at each time, and I enjoyed experiencing both.

The fitness centre was another highlight, particularly because of its open views. Being able to exercise while looking out across Wuhan makes the gym feel much less enclosed than a conventional hotel fitness facility.

The spa is another major plus.

It has ample facilities, different settings and occupies multiple floors, making it a substantial wellness destination rather than simply a small spa attached to the hotel.

Overall, the wellness facilities are a genuine strength of the property.

Meetings & Events

Beyond leisure stays, The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan also has a substantial meetings and events offering, making the hotel suitable for corporate gatherings, conferences, social occasions and weddings.

The hotel has six event rooms with a total of 1,336 square metres of event space. At the centre of the offering is a 712-square-metre pillarless ballroom, which can accommodate up to 400 guests in a theatre-style arrangement. The ballroom features a built-in LED screen and is supported by a spacious foyer and additional meeting rooms.

The meeting spaces also include a Summit Room, Boardroom and Executive Room, providing flexibility for smaller meetings and corporate gatherings. Natural daylight, audiovisual technology and dedicated event services further support the hotel’s meetings and events offering.

For weddings and larger social occasions, the pillarless ballroom is designed with a softer aesthetic inspired by Wuhan’s spring cherry blossoms. The hotel also offers dedicated wedding planning services and customised menus and décor.

Given its central Hankou location, high-rise setting and combination of meeting facilities, dining venues and extensive wellness facilities, The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan is well positioned to cater to both business and social events.

Housekeeping & The Little Details

Housekeeping was consistently attentive throughout my stay.

Whenever I needed something, the team was responsive and helpful.

There was also a particularly sweet touch that I appreciated: the housekeeping team gave me a small refrigerator magnet as a souvenir.

It is a tiny gesture, but these are the details that make a hotel stay more memorable.

Luxury hospitality is not always about grand gestures. Sometimes, a small and unexpected souvenir can leave a stronger impression than an elaborate welcome amenity.

Service: The Ritz-Carlton Difference

Service was one of the strongest aspects of my stay.

It started with Evan opening the car door and personally welcoming me. He then escorted me through the arrival experience and took me to my room.

At the Club Lounge, Angus personally greeted guests, while the team remained attentive throughout the day.

Joy took the time to show me the wellness facilities, even though I had not originally planned to explore them in detail.

Housekeeping was also attentive whenever I required assistance.

Taken individually, these might appear to be small interactions. Together, however, they created a consistent impression of personalised service.

For me, that is what the Ritz-Carlton experience should be about.

The hotel has an impressive setting, spectacular views and beautifully designed facilities.

It is the people who make the difference.

What Could Be Improved

My stay was overwhelmingly positive, and I did not encounter any significant issue that detracted from the experience.

As a newly opened hotel, the longer-term test will be whether it can maintain the same level of service and operational consistency as the property matures and occupancy increases.

For now, however, The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan has made a very strong start.

Verdict

The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan is an impressive addition to the city’s luxury hotel landscape.

The hotel’s greatest asset is its elevation.

From the 56th floor, Wuhan takes on an entirely different perspective. The city stretches below the guest rooms, while the Yangtze River provides a magnificent backdrop from the Club Lounge.

My Club City Skyline View King Room made excellent use of that setting, while the Club Lounge’s location on the same floor added considerable convenience.

The Club Lounge itself was one of my favourite parts of the stay. I experienced breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner there, and found the food and beverage quality consistently very good. The lounge bar also becomes an especially attractive place to enjoy a cocktail in the evening.

I also appreciated the opportunity to experience other parts of the hotel’s F&B portfolio, from coffee at The Lobby Lounge to lunch at Chu Yao Xuan with Marcel and Cassidy.

The wellness facilities are another strong point. The swimming pool, fitness centre and extensive spa all add substance to the hotel beyond its rooms and restaurants.

Yet ultimately, it was the service and people that made the stay memorable.

From Evan’s welcome on arrival, to Angus greeting guests in the Club Lounge, Joy showing me the wellness facilities and the attentive housekeeping team leaving a small refrigerator magnet as a souvenir, there were numerous personal touches throughout the stay.

The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan is still a young hotel, but it already has many of the ingredients needed to become one of the city’s leading luxury properties.

Spectacular views, elegant accommodation, strong dining, impressive wellness facilities and genuinely attentive service make The Ritz-Carlton, Wuhan a compelling choice for a luxury stay in the city.

For me, the combination of the 56th-floor Club experience, spectacular views of Wuhan and the hotel’s atmospheric high-rise public spaces is what sets this property apart.
