Spring Hotels has strengthened its ambitions in the international meetings and events sector with the appointment of former Iberostar executive Tania Mesa as Director of Groups & Events, a move that comes as the Tenerife-based hotel group expands one of the Canary Islands‘ largest conference and events portfolios.
The appointment arrives at a significant growth moment for Spring Hotels following its acquisition of Mare Nostrum Resort in Playa de las Américas, a landmark property that has dramatically increased the group’s capacity to host major conferences, corporate gatherings and incentive travel programmes.
Mesa will lead the strategic development of Spring Hotels’ expanding Groups & Events division, overseeing commercial growth, international partnerships and long-term positioning within the highly competitive MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) market.
Tenerife Strengthens Its Position in Global Meetings Tourism
The recruitment highlights the growing importance of Tenerife as a year-round destination for international business events.
Mesa brings nearly nine years of experience from Iberostar, where she most recently served as MICE Manager for the Canary Islands and Cape Verde. During that period, she helped expand meetings and incentive business across key international markets while strengthening relationships with global event planners, corporate buyers and industry stakeholders.
Her experience spans hotel operations, event management and MICE sales, providing Spring Hotels with deep sector expertise as the company seeks to attract larger international congresses and corporate events.
The appointment also reflects increasing competition among Mediterranean and Atlantic destinations to capture growing demand for business travel, incentive programmes and association conferences.
Mare Nostrum Resort Expands Event Capabilities
A key factor behind Spring Hotels’ MICE strategy is the addition of Mare Nostrum Resort, home to the iconic Pirámide de Arona auditorium.
The venue is one of the largest event facilities in the Canary Islands, capable of hosting up to 1,600 delegates. The resort also features more than 20 meeting rooms and approximately 1,200 square metres of exhibition space.
The expanded infrastructure significantly enhances Spring Hotels’ ability to accommodate international congresses, product launches, corporate meetings and large-scale incentive events.
Industry observers view the acquisition as a major step in positioning the group as a stronger player within Southern Europe’s business events market.
Leadership Focused on International Growth
Jo Robinson, Chief Sales Officer at Spring Hotels, said Mesa’s international experience and commercial expertise make her ideally positioned to support the company’s next phase of development.
According to Robinson, the combination of Mesa’s industry relationships and the addition of Mare Nostrum Resort creates new opportunities to attract congresses, corporate groups and incentive travel programmes while strengthening partnerships across key source markets.
Mesa described the role as an opportunity to help shape the future of Spring Hotels’ events business during a transformative period for the company.
She also highlighted Tenerife’s continued potential as a leading destination for international meetings and incentive travel, citing the island’s year-round appeal, accessibility and growing event infrastructure.
Why This Appointment Matters
As destinations worldwide compete for high-value business travel, leadership appointments such as this increasingly signal broader strategic investment.
For Spring Hotels, bringing in a well-established MICE specialist coincides with a major expansion of event infrastructure and reinforces Tenerife’s ambitions to attract more international conferences, corporate events and incentive programmes.
The move positions the hotel group to capitalize on rising demand for destination-based meetings and experiential business travel, sectors expected to remain key growth drivers for European tourism in the years ahead.
