Marriott Expands The Luxury Collection Into Cambodia and Laos
Marriott International has announced a landmark agreement with KS Hotels to introduce The Luxury Collection to Cambodia and Laos through the conversion of two established boutique hotels.
The agreement covers La Résidence Angkor in Siem Reap and La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang, both long recognised as heritage properties within their destinations.
Following planned upgrades, both hotels are expected to join the Luxury Collection portfolio while retaining their architectural identity and cultural character.
Rajeev Menon, President Asia Pacific excluding China at Marriott International, described the signing as a milestone for the company’s regional expansion.
“This signing marks a defining milestone for Marriott International, as it represents the company’s debut hotel in Laos and the entry of The Luxury Collection in two inspiring, culturally-rich destinations,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International.
Menon added that the hotels are expected to combine heritage architecture with locally inspired design and guest experiences.

The destination is served by Luang Prabang International Airport, located about 4.9 kilometres from the property.

Strengthening The Luxury Collection in Southeast Asia
Once completed, the two hotels will expand the footprint of The Luxury Collection in Southeast Asia, adding to the brand’s presence in markets such as Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
For Marriott International, the Luang Prabang property represents the company’s first hotel in Laos, while the Siem Reap property further strengthens Marriott’s presence in Cambodia.
Anthony Lark, Executive Director of HMD Asia, highlighted the operational collaboration behind the project.
“Operating within the Marriott International franchise framework enables a strong strategic collaboration bringing together the global reach, distribution power, and brand equity of Marriott with HMD Asia’s deep local market expertise and hands-on approach to luxury management.”
Lark added that the partnership combines international distribution with locally driven management and asset performance.
Both properties will participate in Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott’s global loyalty programme, which spans more than 30 hotel brands worldwide.
Why It Matters
The agreement reflects a broader trend of luxury hotel expansion into culturally significant Southeast Asian destinations.
Key implications for the hospitality sector include:
- Marriott’s strategic entry into Laos, a market with relatively limited global brand presence
- Strengthening of luxury accommodation supply in Siem Reap, driven by tourism to Angkor
- Conversion of heritage boutique hotels into global luxury brands, a growing asset repositioning strategy
The additions also reinforce the positioning of The Luxury Collection as a brand focused on destination-led luxury experiences rooted in local culture and heritage.
