Qatar is accelerating its efforts to capture a larger share of China’s growing outbound travel market through new artificial intelligence-powered partnerships with two of the country’s leading technology and travel platforms.
During an official visit to China, Visit Qatar Chief Executive Officer Eng Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi led a delegation that signed strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Fliggy and Huawei, reinforcing the destination’s focus on digital innovation and smarter visitor experiences.
The agreements position Qatar at the forefront of a broader tourism industry shift towards AI-driven trip planning, personalised travel recommendations, and seamless digital services for international travellers.
Visit Qatar and Fliggy Launch AI-Powered Smart Travel Guide
The first agreement, signed on 3 June with Chinese online travel platform Fliggy, aims to enhance destination discovery and travel planning through artificial intelligence.
Under the partnership, the organisations will develop a dedicated “Smart Travel Guide to Qatar” while creating customised tourism packages tailored to Chinese travellers.
The initiative is particularly notable as it represents Fliggy’s first deep AI integration project with an international tourism board, highlighting Qatar’s ambition to become a leading smart tourism destination in the Middle East.
By combining AI-powered travel services with targeted destination branding, Visit Qatar hopes to simplify trip planning while increasing awareness of the country’s attractions, cultural experiences, and tourism offerings among Chinese consumers.
Huawei Partnership Focuses on Seamless Travel Experiences
A second agreement signed on 4 June with Huawei Mobile Services will focus on using AI and data technologies to improve the end-to-end visitor journey.
The collaboration will support smarter travel planning, navigation, and digital payment capabilities through Huawei platforms, including Petal Maps, helping travellers move more easily throughout Qatar.
The agreement builds on an existing relationship between the two organisations. Visit Qatar previously became the first international tourism board to launch services on Huawei’s HarmonyOS ecosystem, a milestone that expanded its digital reach among Huawei device users.
China Remains a Key Growth Market for Qatar Tourism
The dual partnerships reflect Qatar’s growing emphasis on technology-led tourism development as destinations worldwide compete for high-value international visitors.
China remains one of the world’s most influential outbound travel markets, and tourism organisations are increasingly investing in AI-enabled tools that can provide personalised recommendations, real-time information, and frictionless travel experiences.
For Visit Qatar, collaborating with major Chinese technology and travel companies provides direct access to millions of potential travellers while strengthening the destination’s digital presence across platforms already familiar to Chinese consumers.
AI Becomes Central to Destination Marketing
The latest agreements underscore how artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a core component of destination marketing and visitor engagement strategies.
As travellers increasingly rely on digital ecosystems to research, book, navigate, and pay during their journeys, tourism boards are seeking partnerships that reduce friction and create more connected experiences.
With new collaborations spanning travel booking, navigation, and mobile technology, Visit Qatar is positioning itself to meet evolving traveller expectations while strengthening its appeal in one of the world’s most competitive outbound tourism markets.
