Four Seasons Cartagena has begun confirming reservations ahead of its long-anticipated spring opening, marking a major new luxury hospitality arrival in Colombia’s historic Caribbean port at a moment of renewed global interest in experiential, heritage-led travel.
A Landmark Opening in Getsemani
Located in Getsemani, just steps from Cartagena’s UNESCO-listed Walled City and opposite the modern convention centre, Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Cartagena brings together restored heritage architecture and contemporary luxury in one of the city’s most culturally vibrant districts.
The intimate property occupies a collection of historic buildings spanning several centuries, including:
- The 16th-century San Francisco cloister and temple
- Former theatres
- The 1920s Club Cartagena, a landmark of the city’s social life
Exquisitely restored façades, hidden frescoes, stone and wood detailing, and quiet courtyards are paired with modern technology and contemporary comforts throughout the hotel’s public spaces and accommodations.
“This project is one of true passion,” says Antoine Chahwan, President, Hotel Operations – Americas, Four Seasons. “We are honoured to transform extraordinary historic buildings while continuing to grow our presence in Colombia, delivering a personalized and distinctly Four Seasons experience in a remarkable setting.”
Why It Matters
The opening of Four Seasons Cartagena reflects several wider industry shifts:
- Rising demand for heritage-led luxury experiences that preserve local identity
- Colombia’s growing position as a high-end, culturally rich travel destination
- Increased investment in adaptive reuse, bringing historic structures back to life rather than replacing them
- Getsemaní’s evolution as a creative, community-driven neighbourhood rather than a purely touristic zone
For Four Seasons, the project strengthens its Latin American footprint while reinforcing the brand’s focus on culturally sensitive luxury hospitality.
Design with Historic and Creative Significance
Four Season Cartagena’s enduring design was led by celebrated French designer François Catroux, whose work is renowned for balancing classical elegance with warmth and intimacy. Four Seasons Cartagena was among Catroux’s final projects and one of the few hospitality commissions he ever accepted.
Additional collaborators include:
- SBM – food and beverage interiors
- WATG – architectural integration of Catroux’s vision
- Wimberly Interiors and AvroKO – interior design
- José María Rodríguez – principal architect
- Ricardo Sánchez and Angelina Vélez – historic restorations
- Poli Mallarino (Colombia) and Enea Garden Design (Switzerland) – furniture, textiles, and landscaping
Together, the team ensured the buildings’ original character remains central to the guest experience.
Rooms, Suites and Residences
Four Seasons Cartagena features 131 guest rooms and suites, including:
- 27 Spanish colonial-style accommodations, with 18 rooms set around the former cloister courtyard
- 104 contemporary-style rooms and suites
- The Presidential Catroux Suite, a two-bedroom tribute to the designer
- Casa Ambrad, a three-bedroom rooftop residence with private plunge pool
In addition, the property includes 15 private luxury residences, expanding Four Seasons’ residential offering in Colombia.

Guests will have access to eight distinct restaurant and bar concepts, including the first-ever collaboration between Four Seasons and Major Food Group, the team behind New York’s Carbone.
Dining and leisure highlights include:
- A signature steakhouse
- A lively bar and intimate speakeasy
- Casual pizzeria and café
- Rooftop bar for sunset cocktails
- Two rooftop pool decks with panoramic city, harbour and Caribbean views
Wellness is anchored by UMARI Spa, offering:
- Six treatment rooms, including a couple’s suite
