Partnership will align Tokyu Hotels’ operations with GSTC Standards, strengthening sustainability across hotel management, supply chains, and staff training in Japan and beyond.
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) and Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd. (Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd.) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on advancing sustainable tourism practices and improving hotel operations in line with internationally recognised sustainability standards.
Under the agreement, Tokyu Hotels & Resorts will adopt the GSTC Standards as a framework to shape its sustainability roadmap. This includes defining objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational initiatives aimed at embedding environmental, social, cultural, and economic sustainability across its business.
The partnership is designed to extend beyond internal operations. Tokyu Hotels & Resorts will also strengthen sustainability integration across its wider ecosystem, including products, services, operational systems, and supply chain management. The group plans to work closely with partners and suppliers, including hotels certified by GSTC-accredited Certification Bodies, to improve sustainability outcomes throughout its network.

Takashi Takei, President & Representative Director of Tokyu Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., added:
“We are pleased to enter into this MOU with GSTC, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. By leveraging the GSTC Standards and expertise, we will further enhance our sustainability initiatives and integrate these principles throughout our organization. Through this collaboration, we seek to strengthen our brand and reinforce our operational competitiveness as a global hotel operator while contributing to the continued globalization and international competitiveness of Japan’s tourism and hospitality sector.”
